I just bought a Viewsonic VX2433 24 inch monitor and plan to use it with my T61 seated in a Thinkpad Advanced Mini Dock.

The T61 has a 14.1 display and the integrated video card is identified as Mobil Intel 965 Express Chipset Family. I am running Windows 7 Home Premium.

With the T61 in the dock, I used the Viewsonic provided DVI cable to connect the T61 to the monitor. The T61 seemed to find the correct driver and the monitor came on with a full width and height display of the Windows 7 opening screen. The display of photo images is spectacular. The display of Google Earth images is also excellent.

The problem I am having is with text in applications like Gmail and MS Word. The text looks washed out. The image adjustment menu display on the monitor has contrast and brightness controls, but there is only minor changes in contrast and brightness when I make changes in these parameters.

When the monitor was automatically installed it displayed the correct 1920 X 1080 resolution and a 60 Hz refresh rate.

I was surprised to find that that maximum display resolution of the T61 with the Intel 965 chipset is 1024 X 768, to which it is set. Could this be the problem?

The photo image display is really very good. Any suggestions on how I can get a sharp and crisp rendering of text in terms of contrast and brightness will be greatly appreciated.

    John

Activating cleartype provided a substantial improvement, especially in MS Word. Thanks.

I wish I had a better understanding of the interactions between the T61, the Viewsonic monitor and Windows 7 to help optimize the various settings. But I am grateful for the improvments provided by activating cleartype.
