I read somewhere on these forums that Lenovo was going to offer the T60s with the 14.1" standard size screens again but only for a limited time so I've been checking periodically just in case the rumor was true. Apparently it was true because they are back again since around 1 or 2 AM CST. This could be our last chance to get a custom ThinkPad configuration in 4:3 (non widescreen) direct from the manufacturer since Lenovo seems really adamant about moving to widescreen only for the T61 and beyond.

    Here's my ideal configuration:
ThinkPad T60 Series - 1 Yr Depot Warranty
    Edit 2613CTO $1,918.75 1 $1,918.75
    Processor: Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processor T7600 (2.33GHz, 4MB L2, 667MHz FSB)
Operating system: Genuine Windows Vista Ultimate
Operating system language: Genuine Windows Vista Ultimate - US English
    Display type: 14.1 SXGA+ TFT
System graphics: ATI Mobility Fire GL V5250 256MB
    Total memory: 1 GB PC2-5300 DDR2 SDRAM 667MHz SODIMM Memory (2 DIMM)
    Keyboard: Keyboard US English
    Fingerprint reader: Integrated fingerprint reader
Pointing device: UltraNav (TrackPoint and TouchPad)
Hard drive: 100GB Hard Disk Drive, 7200rpm
Optical device: DVD Recordable 8x Max Dual Layer, Ultrabay Slim
    Ethernet: Integrated 1Gb Ethernet 1
Wireless cards: ThinkPad 11a/b/g/n Wireless LAN Mini-PCI Express Adapter
    Battery: 6 cell Li-Ion Battery
Power cord: Country Pack North America
    Modem cable (RJ-11): PSTN cable
Language pack: Language Pack US English
    Accessories and options:
    ThinkPad Advanced Ultrabay Battery 40Y6789 $91.03 1 $91.03
    Total: $2,009.78 ($2195.68 after tax)

That's with using the shareholder program discount. I'll probably pull the trigger before calling it a night, don't want to risk missing this opportunity again. In fact, I was just thinking earlier this evening that I wish I would have ordered two weeks ago since I couldn't find the configuration I wanted from a retailer or reseller.

Now if I knew for sure that the T61p would be available in 4:3 then I would be hesitant about a T60p, but a Lenovo representative told me over the phone today that the T61s will only be available in widescreen format.

According to some people, T61 standard size screens will be offered latter (4:3, 14" and 15").

Hmm... why 1 GB of SDRAM on 2 DIMM? You should at least get it on 1 DIMM and add a gig of ram later if you need it, which it seems like you might running Vista Ultimate and choosing T7600 proc for some heavy duty work.

I think I've read that the standard screen for the T61 would be coming out mid June? You can always cancel your T60P order if the T61 standard screen comes out before they ship your laptop.

A Lenovo rep who was very helpful said they are in fact coming out with standard screen 14 inch T61s come June 5th. Now I did place an order for a T60 standard screen to ship June 15th just to be on the safe side. Hopefully I can still cancel June 5th if I like the specs (for one thing, a flush 6 cell battery).
