The Battery Thread

For the experts, could you comment on:

...I see both on the general web and on the Lenovo site limited info on the T61 or T61p battery part numbers. Are the T60 and T61 battery part numbers the same?

...Is 40Y6789 the PN for both T60 and T61/T61p? Is this the 9 cell battery?

...Is 40Y6797 the PN for both T60 and T61/T61p for the ultra slim line battery?

...I see on the general web (ebay.com for example) a whole range of specs and prices for the 40Y6789. Specs: 5200mAh, 6600mAh, and 7800mAh. Prices: $54 - $110.

...Does the 40Y6789 really cover that range of specs? Seems also to have a range of the number of cells....i assume correlates to the mAh level.

...I assume that the lowest price $54 for the highest spec 7800mAh is the best choice?

...I haven't heard of any problem with a battery "knock-off" if that is what the lowest price represents....anyone hear anything different?

...I really have a problem even finding costs on the Lenovo and IBM sites. Anyone get any different results of sites that work? Any price quotes? Any discounts available for a direct Lenovo battery purchase?

...The info and availablity on the general web site for the ultra bay battery, 40Y6797 is much more limited. A few ebay offers of $98 -$110. Is this worth it? 3 cell battery and 2700mAh. Any other inputs on this battery by anyone? Same questions on Lenovo site as other battery.


Any inputs would be appreciated. In general, what is the best source for the highest quality battery at the lowest price??

EDIT: Ok. I see the Lenovo site quotes. $179 for the 9 cell battery and $119 for the 3 cell ultra bay battery. The $179 seems pretty high.

 

I have done this and it works. I found the right rechargeable batteries for my old laptop on ebay for $29 and soldered them together and it runs like a brand new battery pack, just like when I got it. Not sure if this is the same article that I used but think about it.

The modular battery wears out quickly since it always discharges first. If you need a lot of battery life, I'd suggest the nine cell.
