Interesting. Just for the heck of it I configured a T450 and T450s with the same configuration to see what the prices were. First thing I noticed was that the configuration choices were the same, the second thing was that the final price was exactly the same for each. I don't remember that being the case for the T440/s series.

Is Lenovo still using the same hard to open bottom case design they used in the t440s?

Nice to see they brought the mouse buttons back for the trackpoint. I played with a T440 and hated the large click touchpad, wish they brought the touchpad buttons back too.

I configured a 450s and I notice that there is no option for a larger battery for the rear battery.
And I wonder what connection is used for the 2.5 inch HDD. If it is a standard SATA slot, it should be easy to replace the HDD with a SSD. Also, I assume occupied M.2 slot is for a cache. So, is the empty M.2 slot for an SSD that could be used as the boot drive?

    Thanks for any insight, Jim

I am in the same boat. Just had a chat with Lenovo Rep. The 6-cell option is available when ordered via Chat/Phone, but for some reason it takes a couple of days to show up on the website (similar to W550s - the 6 cell was not there initially, but it is now.).
The 2.5" is SATA III as per tabbook. The M.2 configuration is the same as T440s (I have one). The one with the 16GB cache drive is occupied and the other one will be empty, unless you get the WWAN card. You can put an NGFF SSD in the third slot and use it as boot drive.
The strange thing on the Lenovo website is is that you can choose to not get the 16GB cache drive (save some $) - but then on the next line, the option to get 3rd M.2 slot disappears!!!
This is a glitch. So, theoretically, you can have 2 empty M.2 slots, just that the first single-sided M.2 slot (originally holding the cache drive) is a bit challenging to get to.
    Cheers!!!

Thanks for your reply. Do you know if the HDD is 7 mm? I hope it is not one of the new 5 mm ones. Anyway, I guess I will wait a while before I make a decision.

    Best regards, Jim

The T440S is 7mm. Most likely that didn't change in the T450S.

I noticed the new 5200U processor has similar performance (passmark) to the i5 on my X220 laptop, after all these years the trend is toward maximizing battery life? It's somewhat disappointing.

Yeah, and even more of a disappointment is that battery life hasn't significantly increased. It is part of the obsession with thin and light. Every time Intel comes out with a CPU that requires less power, the PC makers put in a smaller battery. I am sick and tired of 6 hr battery life when 10 hr is easily possible.

Being the owner of a T420s I was waiting for those new Broadwell laptop. And what I see on US and FR website for now is a bit disappointing: T450s is limited to 12GB because of only one slot and 4GB soldered, but it has 1920x1080 screen. While the T450 can go up to 16GB (which is the current amount of memory I already have on my T420s), but it's only available with a 1600x900 screen.

Is there some hope that T450 could be :
    - available with 1920x1080 screen ?
    - upgraded even unofficially to 32GB ? So-DIMM Modules of 16GB do exists, but it looks like it needs specific updates on the BIOS/firmware side to be handled.

The T450 most likely won't be available with a 1920x1080 for pure market segmentation reasons--they want to differentiate it from the T450s.
You can replace the screen yourself quite easily, but doing so voids your warranty.

By the way, where are you finding the 16 GB modules? I see only 240 pin versions.

That was my fear. Silly decision, if any of you marketing people are reading me.

Oh I missed the modules questions. Those I was referring to were http://www.intelligentmemory.com/dram-modules/ddr3-so-dimm/

I've used their « live chat » feature to exchange with people from the company, they told me they could make them run on hacked thinkpad x240, but that there was no plan they were aware for official support.
