... serious?? >_>
The U300 have no dedicated vcard, and the U400 dont' have SSD option... >_> where is a U with both????
I was thinking of getting the Lenovo U instead of the Sony S series... looks like I'll the Sony S Series is still a better choice ;x

Some Amazon reviews of the U400.
Seems to be well liked, construction and trackpad on par with the Macbook Pro. Can't wait for the 'official' reviews! -
i really really like the U... but seriously no internal SSD option for me withotu modding is a deal breaker... i dont' understand why Lenovo would leave out SSD option..
IIRC, Engadget's press release from lenovo say the U400 does have SSD... but i went to Lenovo's site to order, and to my dismay have no SSD option >_> ffarrgg! -
Unless it is difficult to replace the hard drive in these, why not replace it on your own? You get to choose the SSD you want and will most likely save some $ since Lenovo often charges you way more than they are worth. ($360 upgarde for a 160Gb SSD.)

anyone know if the HDD in U400 is standard sized 2.5"?? I think i'll have my company's tech department install a SSD for me on the U400 ;x
-
As far as this having a SSD from Lenovo; 64Gb is small for SSD and I would assume that is a mSATA SSD, rather than a traditional 2.5'' or 1.8''. -
anyone who owns a U400 can tell me about how easy it is to swap the HDD for a SSD?
if it's mSATA is it still capable of SATA 6.0? -

- The IdeaPad case construction for the U300, U300s and U400 isn't designed for easy access by the owner. You'll notice in the pics of the machines there are no visible screws. I'm sure there are four under the bottom pads but that's a hint they don't want people messing with the machine.
- The HDD is likely a standard sized 2.5" drive. The real question is the height and whether it's 7mm or 9.5mm. Either way you should be able to replace it if it isn't proprietary.
- I doubt Lenovo would introduce SATA III speeds via mSATA in the IdeaPad line but that would be cool. Call it a longshot.

If I decided to put an mSATA SSD would I have to sacrifice my wireless connectivity? Because AFAIK laptops like x220 you could put an mSATA ssd but you have to let go of your wireless nic card,

Is that so? hehe good to know

I received my U400 yesterday with an I7 processor. I had a Crucial M4 256gb SSD. I immediately opened the pc and went to install the SSD. The SSD would not fit because of the placement of the USB3 port. It prevented the SSD from inserting into the SATA connector by about 1/8 of an inch. I had to modify the case of the SSD (removed about 1/4" from the SSD case (pretty easy to do). Success, the SSD is now installed. And man is this system fast.
The HDD is a standard 2.5" drive, Sata 3 (6gb sec).
You do not lose any wireless services.
The case was a little tricky getting off. Under the 2 rear rubber feet are the 2 screws to open the case. The screws have a raised head to which the rubber feet attach, so they can be put back on.
Sorry, I was so excited to get this done, I forgot to take photos.

Hey tcasso,
I am planning on buying a U400 and putting in a 128gb ssd. I noticed you said the crucial ssd didnt fit by 1/8th of an inch. Was this along the width or length? I am planning on buying Kingston ssd with 2.7x3.9x0.3 inch dimensions. do you think this would fit also? -
The problem was with the thickness of the drive. I had to remove about 1/8 thickness, about 1/4 inch square. That would be on the .3 inches of your dimension.
The U400 don't have SSD option???
