Hello, my X201 fingerprint reader amber light (the one on the right) stay on, always, as long as there's power connected (battery or AC)

Is this a known problem? I did some searches but came up with nothing.

It's been like this for several months and doesn't seem to affect anything else, it is just a really bright LED shining directly to your eyes so I have to taped it off.

It indicates that it's on. If you swipe your finger over it so will it power on the computer and automatically logon to Windows.

However, you can turn it off. But I can't remember if you do this in Windows or in BIOS?

It can be turned off in Windows using the FPR configuration utility.

It's the amber light, guys. It's on the right side of the fingerprint reader, indicates failed attempts. What you are talking about is the green light on the left side of the reader.

And I mean it stay on as long as there's power, doesn't matter if the machine itself is powered off or on, OS is running or not... seems like a hardward problem to me.

Can you buy the replacement only? I looked up and look like I have to replace whole palm rest area along with touchpad, buttons... etc...

Ah, now I see... The entire thing has to be replaced touchpad and all. If you're like me the touchpad is kinda smooth anyway. I could live with it, but if you have a warranty definitely get it replaced. The good news is that it's an LED with low current draw so it won't hurt you too badly.
