    The next ThinkPad X series

Hi! I really like the X60s and I would like to buy it but I find some weak points such as the low resolution (1024x768) and the lack of a build-in optical drive. However, I would still go for it.

I want a laptop for at least 4 or 5 years and Windows Vista is coming soon. The Core Duo has enough horse power to manage Windows Vista and its GMA 950 is Vista capable… but I think that the GMA950 is not enough (I may be wrong). In addition, I'm sure that Vista will probably eat the battery and it would be recommended to use Windows XP instead. But in 2 years, everything will be for Vista and I don’t want to be the one who spent a lot for an outdated computer.

Do you think that the next generation of ThinkPad X series will have a better display resolution with better specifications for Windows Vista? Should I wait for it? Will it be soon?

    Thank you, bye!

I doubt the screen resolution would be much higher, on a 12" screen XGA is enough, WXGA is pushing it and anything higher would be straining on the eyes.

The optical drive is a maybe, but they've done fine so far without it and really, on the go most people don't need an optical drive, which is the only time one can't really be easily accessed.

The GMA 950 will run Windows Vista fine, it can also run the Aero Glass interface, and Aero Glass is all there is to vista that's graphically demanding.

Not sure on the battery eating part.

I doubt a new series will come out really soon, but when the Merom CPUs come out it's very likely sometime after that a new series will be out with them. It'd probably take a couple months though.

Do they make 12" screens with higher resolution than XGA? I know I've never seen one

No, they don't. I think that if they want to make a 12" screen with higher resolution, they will have to use a widescreen like the Lenovo 3000 v100 12.1" WXGA (1280 x 800)

As I recall there have been a few 12" notebooks with SXGA+ resolution. There was a Toshiba tablet PC, but they are unusual. I don't see the next X being anything other than XGA.

Does someone know if the screen brightness of X41 Tablet is the same as
that of X41 or it is still higher?
