OK, my T61 is merrily making its way from China to the USA as I anxiously track its progress and suddenly up pops a foreboding "The shipment is being held by brokerage for reasons beyond ups' control" message in the tracking notes.
To paraphrase a few other folks around here....what the heck...????
OK, anyone have a clue as to what this might mean (not just as far as what it exactly means--ie, is some customs agent bored and wants to play solitaire on my new laptop--but how long is such a delay likely to be in shipment?
Argghhh....
-
Customer check when they import from China. Usually takes 1 day, Mine took 2 days. Don't Worry
-
Sometimes it just takes a matter of hours. It just means that UPS has turned the pallet over to a customs broker. The last two I ordered cleared overnight.

It's normal. The paper work is in Chinese? It has to be translated by customs,
-
Mine cleared overnight and fell on my doorstep by the next morning. There must have been a delay in the computer updates because it even arrived with the early UPS truck, not the usual afternoon. I was shocked how fast it got here.
-
Not so much worried, just a little curious....got an update. It was released by the "brokerage", but now the clearing agency is playing solitaire
THE SHIPMENT IS BEING HELD BY BROKERAGE FOR REASONS BEYOND UPS' CONTROL / BROKERAGE RELEASED SHIPMENT. SHIPMENT IS SUBMITTED TO CLEARING AGENCY FOR FURTHER CLEARANCE
Further clearance? Is that anything like double secret probation? -
Actually, that's a fairly common message, too. -
I honestly try not to watch the tracker, i swear those things will eventually drive people insane.
-
This is the last step, get ready for a departure scan next.... if they bother to scan it.
-
Dont worry In may case also it held for the same but released next day and they still ale to make the delivery on time.. so dnt panic..
-
Don't worry, I got the same two messages. Mine took 1 or two days to get cleared.

Security is high.... Imagine for a moment that an "evil" north korean spy manages to get hired in a south korean facility and....God Knows what he'd be able to do to a RAM stick.... Now I'm all stressed out becuase of that and I have to open every server I get to make sure there is no spy camera attached to ma RAM sticks...
Another priceless gem I once encontered was that they had held my shipment for 2 days because the equipment's price seemed to high so they held it and contacted me to make sure it was the right price. "I'm sorry sir but every individual item that is marked more expensive than XXXXX (I don't remember) is automaticaly assumed to be an error and is held for 48 hours so we can make sure there hasn't been a typo error on the form"... I mean COME ON!!! I already know this things bled me dry, you don't have to shove it in my face..... -
That is too funny--I'll wait for my phone call and try to keep a straight face while I relate that -
Hmm held up by customes.
I am wondering if choosing the WMD package for your laptop was wise.
Or maybe they say it came with Half Life and figured you were a terrorist in training -
I ordered a T61p on the 18th and it shipped yesterday, now it is stuck in customs just like yours.
Good thing I am not going to open it until Christmas anyways. -
I think the customs guy took my laptop home for Thanksgiving so he could track his fantasy football team scores....
-
i think that's normal near holiday sales.. i ordered my x61 on nov 7th and it's delivered to my house on nov 15th... talk about fast delivery =]
-
It was apparently released late yesterday and is back on the road....thing is doing more traveling this holiday weekend than I am
The shipment is being held by brokerage for reasons beyond ups' control
