We have three conflicting data points.
    1. tabook says
    2. datasheet says < 4.84lbs. Note this does not contradict the tabook -- I presume the minor difference (between 4.7 and 4.84) could be SSD vs HDD.
    3. product page says Starting at 4.84 lbs.

Tech support confirmed the tabook data and said they are alerting management to the shop page being wrong.

if the tabook is correct, then there is not much difference in the weight of t420 and t420s?

The T420s per the tabook is 6-cell: starting at 3.68 lb. The product page only slightly differs this time with Starting at 3.9 lbs. That's still a bit less than the 4.31lbs of the T420 6-cell. But yes, it's not much of a difference.

Does the 9 cell stick out and how much does the 9 cell last in real time vs the 6 cell?

The 9-cell will stick out the back of the laptop by a bit short of an inch. Judging by the Wh amounts, the 9-cell will probably get approximately 50% or so more battery time than the 6-cell. In Lenovo's estimates, the 6-cell gets up to 9 hours, and the 9-cell gets up to 15 hours.
