    I doubt their next computer will be a Thinkpad bought from a Chinese company.

    I think its a good read :)

    According to this, NASA is very satisfied with ThinkPads and are currently in the process of upgrading, but they have to make sure that the ThinkPads endure proton beams. Whatever those are anyway :)

    They don't need pure speed, as they are more interested in reliability, as anything CPU intensive they do probably needs a main frame. In addition, none of the Core Duo processors out now are hardened against radiations, which is why when hubble is still operated by a special Intel 486 CPU set. It takes a while to produce a radiation hardened CPU and that passes the test on reliability.

    The flight control systems on the Raptor F-22 is probably operated by redundant sets of Pentium Pro processors.

    Also T61p have just boarded the space center.
