For Window XP Users, you can use ThinkPad Anti-Theft Manager. It have all the option that this Vista version needs.

An interesting concept and I'm sure this will be valuable to quite a few people concerned about the well-being of their laptop.
P.S. I checked all files included in the above post for viruses with the latest/updated version of Kaspersky. The files are safe to use. -
Anyone try it? Any comments?
-
Thank you for posting this. However, I think that would get really annoying to a lot of people.
-
he he this is cool. i've tried it and it worked just like a car alarm (depending on how sensitive you set for the APS). There are functions that let it lock the system once your laptop has been moved and the alarm has gone on. i let it get the volume to the max so it's hella loud! you can use wav files to replace the supplied alarm sound. this is ideal when you leave your laptop at a public place.
good find, XYKO! -
It's very early version of program. It looses config on exit. The author promised to improve it

VS2008 project -
Would anyone trust this to stop a thief from nicking their notebook in a University library?
-
what happens if you just plug headphones into the headphone jack?
-
well it works quite well. the tptomato program i'm using does not lose config on exit. headphone in? can't hear anything. no one would ever thought that a thinkpad had an alarm...too bad it now has it!
setting to the max sensitive level ensures higher effectiveness. you can even set the program to lock your system once the alarm is triggered! -
doesn't seem to work for Vista x64. I just get an error when I try to run it.
-
Would muting the audio remove any protective effects?
And what if you restart? -
even when you mute the audio, as long as you mark it as "adjust to max volume when playing siren", it will activate the audio automatically.
in "advance tab" of the program, mark " register in system registry". this will start the program every time windows boots up. -
FYI, a new version ("major release") was released on March 9. It still doesn't seem to work with Vista X64
-
ok, im getting pissed, this tomato unpacked files won't delete off my computer because it says its in use even when i just started the computer, i tried uninstalling it and it says that it was never installed... will a registry cleaner take care of this?
-
n/m registry cleaner didn't work
... this program is getting annoying because it keeps setting the volume to 2 when the windows starts
-
all the settings can be modified within the tomato program. in the "advanced" tab, it has an option called "register in system registry", unmark it and it will not start when windows boots up.

Is that the newer version?
But how do I install it? -

BTW, I was in err before when I said it does not work with Vista X64. It *does* work with X64. Good program! -
I love this tomato thing. I have already customized the alarm.wav. I am simply loving it. Would be nice if the thinklight would flash when the alarm went off too. That there would make it top notch.

I'm set tomato on vista, and it's work very nice. But it disable Vista's sleep and hibernate and lid control. What can i do for restore this functionality???
-
It's a cool program. Just tried on Vista. I works, but keeps giving me "System 5" errors every time I start the program and when I change the settings. Does this affect the performance?
Also it doesn't set my volume to Maximum even though that setting is checked. -
-
Does this still work for anyone?
Thinkpad T61 with Windows XP SP3, here.
Whenever I try to open tomato.exe, it closes. I've tried different versions of the Active Protection System to no avail. -
lol, just post a big sign when you leave your laptops that says: DO NOT REMOVE THE BATTERY PLEASE
