I have SO drunk the ThinkPad Kool Aid. :)

After having my first ThinkPad for just under 4 months (courtesy of my employer) and still being in a total honeymoon stage with it, it was a no brainer when I decided to replace the aging (and beat up) Dell and HP laptops that my two tweener daughters have been using. I just pulled the trigger on a couple of 14" R61 (7732) T'Pads for them:

    • Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processor T8100 (2.1GHz 800MHz 3MBL2)[1]
    • Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium[12]
    • 14.1 WXGA+ TFT
    • Intel GMA X3100 GM965 w/ 1394
    • 2 GB PC2-5300 DDR2 SDRAM 667MHz SODIMM Memory (2 DIMM)[8]
    • UltraNav (TrackPoint and TouchPad)
    • 120GB Hard Disk Drive, 5400rpm[4]
    • DVD Recordable 8x Max Dual Layer, Ultrabay Enhanced[5]
    • Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG[10]
    • Integrated Bluetooth PAN
    • 6 cell Li-Ion Battery

This will be a total suprise for the girls and given the grades they're making in school, I think they've earned it.

My next project? Convincing my wife that the Dell 1520 I bought her for Christmas needs replacing. ;)

Awesome. The only thing I would suggest is to get XP Pro instead of Vista.

Great, just hope they dont want to play the latest games on it, with that X3100. It will be fine for normal usage and movies though.

Thanks but no thanks to XP. I'm currently running Vista on two laptops and a 3-year-old (underpowered) Dell Dimension desktop with no problems (although I've turned Aero off on the Dimension). I plan to take full advantage of Vista's parental controls - and the enhanced security should help prevent much of the "Disney droppings" I find on their systems after they've been visiting the typical tweener websites.

Fortunately (for my checkbook), they're not gamers - so I didn't have to upgrade the graphics, processor or battery. Otherwise, we'd probably be looking at just one laptop for them to share. And we know how well THAT would work...

I am a straight male but if you are looking for a boyfriend let me know. I could use a few thinkpads myself.

Hope they like it. I tried to get my sister to agree to a T61 (shes starting university next year) and she said "It looks like a 10 year old laptop designed for old men".

I'm trading her my Dell E1505 for a new T61 once it gets here. I don't mind that it looks like an old mans laptop. :)
