I'm setting up a wireless network for a friend and I ran into a snag

They have an older IBM ThinkPad 380ED:

I bought a Belkin Network Card:

And it won't seat properly in the Card Slot.

According to my finding its should work...but its not

There was a IBM Fax/Modem Card in the slot, that i removed and compared with the Belkin Card, it looks like there is a slight diffrence in size on the plastic at the end of the card.

If I were to alter the card so that it fit in would it work?

Are you SURE that the laptop has a cardbus socket? The specs show only PCMCIA while the network card you purchased is Cardbus.

And no, PLEASE don't alter the card. If it won't fit, there's almost certainly a reason for it.

Does a wireless card exist that would work for this computer?

a newegg.com search for PCMCIA brings up a lot of results, most of which reffering to needing an empty "cardbus" slot

how can i identify which one i need?

I'm not sure how to find one on newegg, but if you call local stores, try asking for a 16-bit PCMCIA card. That worked for me when I was looking for a PCMCIA WIRED network card. I don't know about wireless, though. You may very likely be limited to 802.11b instead of 802.11g if you can find one.
