I have a ThinkPad 410 (native resolution: 1440x900) and have it hooked up to an external LG monitor (native resolution: 1600x900). I also have my laptop monitor as an extended display so I'm utilizing the monitor space on my laptop. My issue is that my text is pixelated when I have these resolutions running. When I do not extend my display the LG external monitor does look a bit better, but not great. I feel that I need to buy a new external monitor to match the resolution of my laptop. Any suggestions? I was thinking of buying an external Lenovo 19" widescreen (native resolution: 1440x900) to match my laptop. My theory is that running two separate resolutions, one for the monitor and one for the laptop, is making my external monitor text look pixelated. Any suggestions or thoughts to obtain clean crisp text on my external display?

try run auto adjust on your external display.

also make sure that the external display is running at 1600x900

Is the auto adjust selection residing on the monitor or on the computer?

are you connecting the external LCD using the laptop's displayport or vga port ?

Auto adjusting is on your LCD, some monitor should have a dedicated button for it, if not it is accessible under the monitor's menu.
