Planning to get P50 and was wondering what's the difference between ECC and non ECC ram?

no one?

ECC is Error Correction Code memory. That memory is used in servers and laptops with Xeon Processors. I could be wrong though.

In order to see what memory you have in the P50, enter the diagnostic mode during boot (F10). There you will find information about the RAM. There you can see the brand and model number. Use that information on the internet in order to see if it is ECC or non-ECC.

ECC is basically a RAM in which bad (e.g badly written) software that could create memory conflicts/overwrite etc
with ECC you are less likely to get blue screens of death for corrupt writing to memory. it is more expensive; in mission critical applications (if you crash you lose money), it is worth it. -
ECC RAM has nothing to do with software bugs. The purpose of ECC RAM is to improve the reliability of the RAM transfers between the RAM modules and the CPU. The is a small chance that there could be an error in the transfer, timing error, electrical error. This is very unlikely on non-ECC RAM but could happen. For mission critical servers, uptime is crucial and error correction improves this already unlikely error to a very unlikely problem.ELCouz likes this.

Don't forget cosmic rays, they can flip some bit in the RAM. (yes it does happen more than you think)
