Hi there,
in case anyone think about it, i just installed mentioned variant of windows. (W.7, 64bit, english version, ultimate)
1. install no problems
2. a few devices were not recognized
3. ran the windows update, applied critical updates
4. after this only two base system devices stayed in 'not recognized' state:
after i checked properties, it revealed:
base system device
with this HW ID's:
pci\ven_1180&dev_0592&subsys
5. it turned out to be (after some googlein)
- ricoh memory stick controller
- ricoh sd/mmc host controller
6. downloaded driver :
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-68053
7. saved the 7kss55ww.exe and used universal extractor (thanks John B) ( http://legroom.net/software/uniextract)
and extracted files in specified folder
8. update driver -> specify place of driver manually -> done
9. all is working so far, nice and clean => so far I can say thinkpad R61 is windows 7 ready![]()
10. download system update v 4.0 (for windows 7):
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-73695.html
now i'm going to try and download some Lenovo specific SW and see what's gonna happen:
11. thinkvantage fingerprint sowftware 5.9.2 for w7 64bit ... done, in 'control panel / user account' now i can see 'manage your fingerprint data' - but i'm not sure, if this is the window feature, or result of lenovo drv install (didn't check it before i installed it)
12. thinkpad power manager ... done, see the battery indicator in tray
13. done with lenovo, don't want to have unnecessary sw slowing me down, last thing - new free antivir from MS:
http://www.microsoft.com/Security_Essentials/
done, so far, so good![]()

if you install the system update right at first it should install quite a lot of the softwares and drivers
i think you might need lenovo's driver to use with the thinkvantage fingerprint software, but i might be wrong -
Well, I prefer to use drivers from MS if possible, have less troubles this way and i don't like to have e.g. like 3 wifi managing SW (from MS, lenovo, intel) etc.
Just trying to keep it clean and my experience is that full install of lenovo apps is slowing my laptop down ... but it's just me -
just sayin'
