I noticed there's alot of misconception and confusion regarding the 15.4" R61, so I wanted to post this review here. The site's original language is German, so the english can be a little rough in parts but everything is pretty clear. Notably, the case though plastic is still solid, the WSXGA+ screen had a high contrast ratio and good brightness, and the viewing angles are pretty good as far as TFT screens go. In the end they rated it the same as the 15.4" T61.

I think most of the issue is between the 14" R61 and the 15" R61. 14" R61 is comparable to a T61, inside and out, when talking about build quality. Look at the comparison here for the R61 series:

Here's the T61 chart for comparison:

I know, but reading this forum, I got the vibe that alot of people didn't know what else was different and there seemed to be a growing sentiment of "If it doesn't have the LCD roll cage, i wonder what else isn't there". Then there was the fact that you'd have to scour the Lenovo page to find out about the hard plastic casing instead of the magnesium alloy used in the T61. The review was to show that the 15" is still no slouch in the build despite differences from the 14" R61 & the T61.

I'm in total agreeance with you. The whole set of ThinkPads are all very well built.

Can't wait to get mine. Should be a significant step up from my current 14" Dell Latitude D610.

You're gonna love it bigmike34. Once you experience the overall quality as well as the superior keyboard of a ThinkPad, you'll never want to switch to any other business line. ;)
