My mother recently inherited a thinkpad sl500 and she is having do a tune up on it and find out why it's making a loud clicking sound. I have narrowed it down to the heatsink fan. I have a general knowledge of desktop computer repair and have never got my hands dirty fixing a laptop. My question is do I have to replace the whole heatsink and fan or can the fan be replaced by itself? And how difficult would it be to do this? Does anyone have any information on the steps to do this? Thank you in advance for the assistance

I'd give the fan a cleaning out first and make sure it spins freely. -
Thanks for the prompt reply and the link. Helped out greatly. Cleaned fan but still makes the noise. To me it sounds kinda like a bearing going out. Fan wobbles when I touched it to spin it. The sound is constant while sitting level on a table and any change such as picking it up or movement of the laptop itself makes the sound worse
