VERY ****ING COOL! Thank you! I don’t own a ThinkPad yet, so I’ve been wanting to check this out. Too bad they don’t have the T400 up there yet though…

    No problem.

using T61: Does anybody know when the 'Lock BIOS Settings' setting prompt you for the Supervisor Password? I know with the 'Supervisor Password' enabled, it prompts you before entering BIOS, but when is the 'Lock BIOS Settings' supposed to prompt me?

It says that with it enabled it prevents the users from making any changes in BIOS without entering a Supervisor Password, but I've had it Disabled and it was no different than having it Enabled.

Just curious; what would you use something like that for?

Normally, you have to set up both Supervisor and User passwords in order for that to work. But I ran the T61 simulator and I cannot find where you can set up the "User" password? Many other BIOS I've seen, you can set up different levels of password, but "User" password can be only set when a Supervisor password is set. If you enter BIOS Setup Utility with the User password, only a small part of the settings can be used.

    LMAO

The User and Master Password is under Hard Disk Password. There are four types of password that I can find and that is Supervisor, Power On, User, and Master.

    Sure.................

hmmm this could be it, have you tried setting up a User password from that menu? Also, I didn't know our SATA HDDs can support different levels of HDD password. I'm kinda confused.

I'm using the User Password at the moment. It prompts me right after the manufacture splash logo and before the HDD starts spinning. The HDD starts up when I enter the password. I also created a Master Password, but I don't know how to initiate that prompt either. So yea, I'm confused too.

It's not a big deal though. The HDD User Password and Supervisor Password was really all I need anyways. Now I can press the power button, immediately type my password after, and then get a drink or something while the computer boots to the desktop. No more having to wait for the OS password prompt. :D

Right now I've the Supervisor and HDD passwords set up, and my BIOS has an option called "Password on boot" which I have set to disabled so that I will not get a password prompt for power-on, I will only get a prompt when entering the BIOS or right before the HDD starts spinning for boot-up. I also kept my Windows password enabled though, so kinda like your setup having to enter the password twice before Windows loads completely. :D

Very cool to see what the BIOS can do.

Would be cooler if BIOS could be teaked to modify core clocks.

Although I don't see a ton of use for a laptop... I could have used something like this as a guide around the bios when I accidentally switched the vga mode on my desktop and ended up with no video.
