Well mine was ordered on the 19th of May, and shipped on the 27th same month. It is now the 3rd of July and still no laptop, and no sign of it being on time. I do hope that UPS makes a liar out of me.

I would call a rep to make sure your friend can get it before he leaves. Delays happen and you need to decide whether to take that risk or not.

That being said a rep would not be able to provide you with any better information than what it says on the system...

The risk is entirely up to you, but lenovo's system isn't the best estimator (depends on configuration too).

Depends how it gets through customs. I did the free shipping option and I got it in 2-3 days (time zone overlap) from when it shipped from China. That being said you could have the upgraded shipping and still have the laptop get stuck in customs.

    I am in CA.

I've always had good luck with thinkpad shipping... usually arrives well before I expect it. My T61 arrived in about 5 business days.

From a courier standpoint, however, shipping to CA is no faster than shipping to NYC, because everything has to clear customs at the UPS hub in KY. That can take anywhere from 24 hours to 2-3 days.

yea mine is stuck in kentucky as well (shipped on the 4th), its purely luck and if lenovo wants to screw u over by shotty documentation. I've seen other ppl's tracking info and some ppl's laptops go through customs within 2 hrs to be on a plane and then out for delivery hours later

If its any consolation I can assure you that customs hick-ups happen with other manufacturers(HP for example) as well.
