I've been considering purchasing a ThinkPad T400s, from everything I've seen, it's almost perfect -- except for the screen. So first question, is the T400s screen really that bad? I'm coming from an Acer Aspire 4720Z, so if it's at least marginally better than that screen, it might be ok ...

And, is there any information about the screen quality (contrast ratio in particular) of the T4 10s? Any better than the T400s?

I'd love to become a ThinkPad user, but a horrendously low contrast ratio might make it hard ...

    Thanks all.

I'm thinking that the answer is that the screens will be pretty bad. Actually, I saw a friend's T400s and it was very bright and fine when surfing. But using hulu, esp full screen, is where you really see the value of having a good screen.

On an unrelated note, the iPad will have a wonderful screen and the screen is the reason I have a mbp.

Sorry but I fail to understand the concept of an Ipad. Apple would sell many more had it made a real Tablet light notebook, able to run both Windows and OSX natively without issues, of yes and with an ethernet port one can access etc ... LOL. As to the screen quality of the T400s ... well I am on a T400 and it's OK-ish if you are not to fussy, all depends on what you use it for. And id you want matte or glossy. Personally I cannot deal with glossy so Thinkpad is the option for me as Dell and HP well... have had too many problems with them and I loathe the HP bloatware

Bloatware I couldn't care less about, if I was going to run Windows I would do a clean install anyway. But I'll be running Linux on it.

I don't need the best screen in the world, but I would like a decent one.

Which is worse on the T400s -- the viewing angle or the contrast ratio?

How is the screen on the T400 compared to the T400s? Just as bad?
