Anyone here owns both models or at least seen it in person and can tell me which has a better quality screen in terms of color, vibrancy and brightness?
I know that the T420 has matte and the other has glossy. I heard that T420 looks wash out and grainy because of matte finish.
Again please don't reply if you don't have both or have not seen both in person.
Thanks

I've never seen either in person, but I do know a few things:
- The matte finish has nothing to do with the screen looking dull.
- The Y570 has a 15.6" 1366x768 screen, and most of those are junk.
- The Y470 has 6 different LCD screen model numbers. The AUO one is particularly bad, but generally most 1366x768 screens larger than 13.3" are bad quality.
- The Thinkpad T420 has at least 3 different 1600x900 LCDs. The AUO one is the worst, the Samsung one isn't as bad, and the LG one is quite good. It all depends which one you get. Make sure you upgrade to the 1600x900 display if you get the T420, because even if you get one of the not-so-good-quality screens, at least you have a higher resolution that makes up for it in terms of multitasking usability.
So no, you're not going to get a better quality screen by going with an Ideapad over the T420. -
I have seen the Y470 and Y560, the colour and vibrancy is better than the equivalent T420 with HD LCD.

I've seen the T410 1440x900, T420s 1600x900, and the IdeaPad Y460 1366x768. The IdeaPad display won't be much better than the T420's display if at all, if the T420's panel is on par with what the T410 and T420s offer. Differences in "crispness" are largely due to the glossy coating (it's been pretty much establsihed that glossy coats give better color vibrancy).
The T420's display is definitely not stunning, but it's not as horrible as many others make it out to be: the T420s I played with definitely had a better panel than my X120e.
