    Hi,

I have just got my T430. And to be honest, I am worried that the creaking/squeaking lid is not normal. I understand laptops that are made out of plastic will have some degree of play, but after all I read about the ThinkPad quality, I hoped that this wouldn't have any!

I have noticed that when I close the lid, and the screen latches closed, if I hold the laptop between the Lenovo logo, and the ThinkPad logo, which is the most sensible place to hold the laptop whilst carrying, I hear this creaking/squeaking sound.

I really didn't expect to hear that! And I'm just worried that either the latch is broken and not quite closing properly which is causing a squeak or a creak - or if, because the unit is made of plastic, there is going to some movement, but is this normal? Other than that, there is no flex anywhere else. I'd be really grateful for any opinions from others who have this laptop.

Also! If the worst was to happen and the latch ever did break (because I have a feeling the left latch is not as strong as the right one), how would that be replaced? And would I still be able to close the lid even if it was broken?

    Thank you!

A quick search seems that although this issue isn't on everybody's ThinkPad, it has appeared on some. My worry is that something is broken/or is going to break, and that this will get worse?

However, if it is normal and expected from the plastic part, as long as it won't cause any damage, I will try to ignore it. Just annoying to hear the creaking sound when I carry the laptop.

    Thanks.
