Hey IBMThink, you should start a thread on the 2013 Thinkpad Design, including the T431s, X230, Helix, and next-gen of our current models. I want to know the impact of this new style and the Haswell processor (as well as the 'star' of 2013)

Lenovo ThinkPad T431s Review - YouTube

MobileTechReview's video review of the T431s

All they would have to do is include a decent screen, for once, and then this would be my perfect notebook.

It seems lenovo would not release X230s outside of china. I only ever seen X230s info page in lenovo china site.

The relation is just same as T430s to T430, so no, it's just a slimmer version of X230.

I just don't know what to do. I'm lost and disappointed. I've been using X61s for the past few years happily but it's showing its age and the performance is far less than what I want. I've been waiting for X230s because X230 is already 'relatively' old and I don't want old tech. Found out X230s has pretty much the same internals - not so interested but I'd be willing to settle.

No. It's still not out in the US and no word of whether it ever will be. That's off the list.

Now x240s from the above. Fine, looks okay. Has Haswell - great. Touch screen - WHAT??? WHY? I DON'T WANT TOUCH SCREEN. No physical trackpoint buttons.. PLEASE WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS. No mention of IPS? WHHHHHHYYYY

Right now I just don't know what to do. I've been thinking of the Sony Vaio Pro 13 but again I don't want a glossy touch screen, and I don't like the keyboard and lack of trackpoint device

If I wasn't in IT I'd probably would have gone with a Macbook Air a long time ago. But I more or less need Windows.

 get your $#@! straight, Lenovo.

The supposed old tech of the X230 isn't far off from the newer tech. I would probably not like the button-less trackpad area so the new Thinkpad models would be off my list. Not sure why the move. Maybe Lenovo wants to be hip and modern so buttons are perceived as being old school. Not sure what the reason might be, though they probably have a well "researched" reason.

Ivy Bridge is still new as far as I'm concerned. Don't hesitate to get the X230 if that's the size you're looking for. I also agree that I don't want touchscreen. If I wanted that, a tablet would be a better option. Also, have you considered some other models besides Thinkpads? HP has a decent, though slightly bulky, 12" Elitebook. A friend uses the previous model and it looks great. Screen is nice too.
