I just purchased my ThinkPad T520. So far very happy with the purchase. However there is a small issue that I would like to know whether you guys have or not.

When I left click the mouse, and drag the pointer on the screen, there is a noticeable noise. It's not coming from the speaker as I tried to mute the speaker. It sounds like reading the hard drivers, or sth. else.

However it didn't happen when I tried in Ubuntu, but only Windows 7 now.

Does anyone have the same issue?

    Thanks

Sounds like it could be a case of the infamous CPU whine rearing its ugly head. That's my guess, although it is odd that this wouldn't show up in Ubuntu as well.

It's the CPU whine. My X220 had it when I scrolled the mouse. There's no good way to deal with it other than turning off the CPU power management in the BIOS which would kill the battery life. I suspect that is why you don't have the issue in Ubuntu because power management in Linux is different from Windows. Most laptops nowadays have this problem but it's usually masked by the hard drive, fan, or the design of the case.

I believe this is normal for all CPUs. My desktop that I recently built (i7 2600k) does this as well when I scroll up and down on certain pages.

Thanks for all the reply. I just want to make sure it's not the problem of laptop itself. Thanks.
