The 175.16 drivers works great with XP SP3.

Is there going to be an update to the guide for installing newer drivers like 174.93? Or is it the same process? Will I need version 174.93 modded INF files as well?

    I'd like to know too.

However the Quad mode performs just as good or maby better IMO.

I would like to try more of the new GeForce drivers though.

I think the inf would work with the newer drivers.

I'd wait for defininte answer on this.

Unfortunately after three failed returns I have decided to return my Thinkpad and purchase an Asus.

I really loved my big black box but with quality issues at the depot and assembly facility I decided to give in and take the 100% refund. I will be typing up a guide (I'm actually working on it now) so people can do it themselves.

Perhaps even a community member will be willing to create a new thread and take over for me. Its not very time consuming at all. Just involves modifying 5-6 lines in the INF and then uploading it.

Edit: The guide I promised a while back is now up! It only took me roughly an hour to whip it up thankfully since I had this guide to go off of. You can find it here:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=253667

Note this guide is for all computers, not just Lenovo's. Though my T61P was used in the examples.

    Thanks

Slightly off topic but releated to overall performance ....

Hiow much of a boost if any did you get from going to 4-4-4-12 RAM?

Did you do any before/after upgrades.

I am going from 2gb to 4gb and before I bought wanted to know if there was any measurable benefit of the faster timed RAM.

So what is the current reliable/stable/great performing driver to install?

Currently on 163.44(reliable but seems outdated now..), vista 32bit

And is the current stable driver free from bugs? such as errors with screen brightness settings, Fn+F3, Fn+key combos, running to hot, draining more battery life, flickering, etc...

Which one should I go for?

Noticed how outdated my driver is when playing Mass Effect on PC and seeing weird shadow artifacts on character model's faces. -_-

The ones listed on the first page here don't seem to be listed on the newest driver section of laptopvideo2go.com

    Just a little faster.

I did some test on 3dMARK06 before and after. The RAM did help.

HDD upgrades helped as well. (From 5400rpm to 7200.2 RPM).

3DMark06 is the only benchmark that I ran. Faster ram is faster though.

The faster RAM cost about the same as slower ram or maby a little more. So cost wise it's not that big of an issue. It boils down to having faster RAM.

My 14' t61p seems to be running a bit choppier than when I first got it which is granted to happen, but I was wondering if maybe an update to my video driver would help. Any updates on the driver?

There are plenty of drivers you can try at www.laptopvideo2go.com
As for modding your GPU to be recognized as a Geforce, this thread is for the FX570M only.

Yeah, thats the card I have and either a mod that will make my GPU faster by being geforce or is there a driver at laptopvideo2go.com that is the latest and will make it faster? I just feel like my computer is running a bit choppier these days and yes, I did a clean install and I don't have a ton of programs.

Depends on your definition of stable. What is rock-solid stable to one person is a mess to another.

I have tried about 20 different drivers in the past two weeks for the fx 570m (Vista 32 only.) I think the lenovo driver from the lenovo website is the most stable. Do you consider the Vista 32 driver from the lenovo website to be current? I dont, but its certainly more stable than any newer driver you can find.

I've had good luck with the 169.28 driver, but the lenovo is more stable. I havent found any other drivers at laptopvideo2go that I would consider truly stable.

If I have learned anything since buying my t61p, its that there is no one perfect driver for the combo of Vista 32/T61P/FX 570M. Some drivers are more stable. Some run faster. Some run hotter. At this point, personal testing is the best way to find the driver that works for you.

Personally, I am looking for a driver that is uber-stable, runs games faster than the rest, and keeps a relatively low temp. So far, I havent found that driver.

If you want true stability, go with the stock driver from the lenovo website. If you want a current driver with stability, you will have to test the myriad of drivers from laptopvideo2go and find the one that is most stable to your particular laptop.

I have the exact same laptop and OS as you do. The moment I find the holy-grail of video drivers for our computers, I will post it with glee! :)

I followed the instructions for the driver installation verbatim.

Games run great, and everthing seemed fine... until I tried playing a DVD.

For some reason none of my DVD programs (WinDVD, PowerDVD, or Windows Media Player) will play a DVD directly. Windows media player sometimes gives an error message suggesting I install new drivers. Before I switched to this driver this problem did not exist.

The strange thing is that if I explore the DVD manually and select a video file on the DVD, I can watch the movie in any of these programs.

Can anyone help me with this problem?

Sidenote: How can I return my drivers back to the old quadro ones? I tried uninstalling the modded drivers and reinstalling the quadro ones, and I had an error message saying my hardware was incompatible.

Just to ask, how will I know that the driver that's listed there is right for my graphics card? Should I be looking for "GeForce 8600M GT" or "Quadro FX 570M" under "Original INF only supports:"?

And can I download drivers released by Acer or Asus? Or only the generic ones?

The driver with the INF that originally supports Quadro FX 570M (*but* only the specific HW key used by Lenovo) will work fine without the need to do anythinng else besides running setup.exe. I've used drivers from Asus (or others) without problems, but it varies from version to version.

With ohter drivers you'll have to use a modified INF. However, some non-Lenovo drivers work fine, some crash, etc. It depends. The Lenovo Quadro drivers from the official site are tweaked for 3D applications, such as CAD, whereas laptopvideo2go drivers (GeForce-based) are better at games.

What if the "Original INF only supports:" only says 8600M GT and no 570M? Can I still use it?

    What's the latest driver?
