So tonight, I came home from vacation and turned on my ThinkPad W520 to find that Windows was no longer able to recognize the fingerprint reader that's built into the PC. I was getting error: E7210005 upon the logon menu as well as when I opened up Lenovo's software. I uninstalled, restarted, and reinstalled the ThinkVantage Fingerprint software twice (there were two versions available for Windows 7 64bit). Neither have solved the issue. BIOS is up-to-date and the reader is enabled in BIOS, but still having no luck. I'm currently logged in, and the green indicator light is still remaining lit while I'm using my ThinkPad. In Device Manager, I'm also unable to see the fingerprint reader that was once listed. Any ideas? I called Lenovo and they weren't able to help much, said only to try a restore. Thanks in advance!

Wait so device manager doesn't see a finger print reader? Maybe it died on you (surprising for a new W520). Maybe unscrew the palmrest and reseat the ribbon connector?
