I am really interested in getting one of these bad boys, but as speculation has it dual core versions will be available in the near future. Does any one have an idea of how long it's going to be (or any other info for that matter)?
I would hate to take the plunge and a month later the dual cores come out...

Honestly any information you get here is speculation.

su4100 is a dual core, and the x100e should support that if its running low-voltage processors

The SU4100 is an Intel CPU. The official announcement from Lenovo is that AMD CPUs will be used in these netbooks.

So who is going to be the first to buy one of these? I was trying to avoid being the guinea pig, but I'm *REALLY* wanting one of these.

Also, I want mine in red, and I can only find it in Black off Amazon.com. I have a gift certificate from Amazon, so I will be picking it up from there. The black is starting to grow on me, though.

I want the black one BUT I do want either a Neo X2 or a Turion dual core. My Toshiba netbook is already sold and I am itching for one of these...
Does anyone know the performance difference between the Neo X2 and Turion dual core CPUs. Is the Turion that much faster?

this is great, the cut price does show through in the choice of construction material, the chassis and case is made entirely of ABS/PC from what i can see. I guess it will do alright as long as its light.....

The x200 with 6cell is about the same weight as the x100e with 6cell. So for me this machine is about having a less expensive laptop to get stolen or broken while on a leisure trip.

I wonder if it has the same finish as a thinkpad I saw today at Fry's, the one I saw had a smooth type of finish that I thought felt cheap. I like the rougher molded finish my T61 has.

Does anyone know if one has a led backlight? Will it fit in the same dock as a T61?

    Jaredy,
when you looked at the x100e did you happen to notice if the hinges are made of metal or plastic?
    Thanks,
    Steve

They weren't bare like the other thinkpads that show it was obviously metal, but I am going to assume it was some sort of metal covered. I flipped the x100e over on the lid and let it try and hold the weight. It pretty much did. Also I would hope lenovo is not that cheap with the x100e :|.

looks like PC/ABS plastic like the SL series, for that small size, PC/ABS subframe can more than hold up the weight of the machine. I doubt Lenovo is going to use the more expensive Mg, CFRP or GFRP for the construction material of the X100e case.

If they are in fact made of plastic I mind as well get a Toshiba Satellite T115D-S1125 now. It has the small size I want and the dual core CPU plus a large HDD... I think I am going to call Lenovo and ask them.

I know it is essentially plastic but the hinges themselves would be plastic too? I guess there is some sort of spring to do the tension at least for the clamping.

the hinge should be metallic, it looks to be coated in a black paint, which makes it appear to be plastic.

the hinges are metal, chassis is plastic.

it's built like the ideapad S netbook (which are actually pretty solid).

Yeah, I liked the S series too. I just wish they made a dual core version of either the S or the X100e. I doesn't need to be a P or T series CPU, but one of the LV or ULV might do. I might be interested in one of those.

Okay, well there was some confusion then. The other poster was asking about the hinges specifically.

Yes I know the X100e is made of plastic... The hinge is what I am interested in...

For a smaller screen, and/or one without the heavy rollcage, weaker hinges are appropriate.
The legendary metal hinges on my T61p are very loose, so I have a good feeling for how darn heavy the screen is.

Yeah no kidding man, there's about 1 full inch of play in my T61p hinges, and what pisses me off even more is that they have play, but when you get past the play, the screen is so hard to pull up it's so tight, i like my T43 hinges much better, consistent and easy to pull up the screen with one hand and not have to hold the laptop down! I'm thinking i'll get them to replace most of the laptop if something major ever breaks down on it, tape a note to the front stating that the hinges are untolerably loose.

Some reviews are beginning to trickle in and guess what... In this one they seem to view the hinges as suspect...

It should also be lighter ...for a netbook yes it has the bigger screen but compared to the X200(s) it is on the heavy side ...if it goes dual core and does not have too many heat issues ... then I will get one ... just so I can leave my better one at home (which I think will be an X200). Rather travel with a cheaper machine ....LOL I know it does not make sense. Depends where I go. I am guessing for trips to Amazon and hot climates the X100e would explode LOL

When the HP in my sig was under warranty, and I had issues with the hinges developing play HP replaced the LCD assembly onsite. They did this three times during the course of my 4 year warranty. Is this type of issue handled the same way by Lenovo?

1 inch seems like a lot... My T60 has maybe an 1/8 inch of play.

I like this little laptop, but I dont like what I'm hearing about the heat... all the reviews I have seen mention it got pretty hot. one of the reasons I got this thinkpad was because it was one of the coolest running notebooks at the time.
