Alright after a long night stayed up all night doing laptop research. I believe I have some to my final decision to get the x series thinkpad. Now I have a couple questions for ya.
1. On the site it has a gig of memory for free, or 1.5 for 99. Should I just stick to the gig or upgrade to the 1.5?
2. Do you guys like the finger scanner? I could save 35dollars by not having it.
3. What about these warranties. Is the protection service for me actually dropping it and such, meaning no matter what it will be covered? I see for 3 years it will cost $200. Worth it you think?
4. Also I've never used a non-touchpad laptop how many hours you think it would take to get used to the red dot?
5. Should I spend the extra money on blue tooth?
-
1. If that 1GB is configured as one stick then go with that and then upgrade an extra 512MB later on, if it's two 512MB sticks I would consider upgrading to the 1.5GB but not totally necessary if you can't afford it right now -- just a nice to have.
2. I don't use mine too much, if you're about saving $ I'd just drop it, it does save time for logging in to Windows and such but if you're okay with typing a password then no worries.
3. Check out the warranty guide . A good way to get an extra year of coverage is to use an Amex card as they extend your warranty by a year for you if you purchase the laptop entirely on your card.
4. I love the pointing stick and much prefer it over a touchpad for the finer control. Some people simply prefer the touchpad though, it's kind of hard to say but I'd say only a couple of hours of use will get you accustomed to the ways of the pointing stick and after a while you'll prefer it.
5. Do you have Bluetooth devices? It's handy for a wireless mouse you may want to get in the future, or a Bluetooth printer. But if you have no Bluetooth devices right now and don't plan to use it then don't get that. -
What about doing a clean install? How does that work out with this machine. I need to do clean installs or if feel dirty with a new machine. Are drivers and such easy to do?
-
I was also wondering if I should do a clean install when my z61t comes in about 3-4 weeks?
I'm looking at buying a wireless mouse because mine is going to have bluetooth. I dont understand do all wireless mouses come with a little usb receiver? I mean if I have bluetooth shouldn't there be mouses out there where theres no extra usb receiver it just connects directly to the bluetooth on the laptop? -
3. Yes, protection service will cover physical damage. Is it worth it? I'm had any number of ThinkPads but have never had the coverage and have never needed it. On the other hand, accidents happen, and disaster can be just a bump away. Like any other type of insurance, you have to decide your own level of risk.
4. For some people, it's instinctive and intuitive. Others hate it and never get used to it. Generally, though, it only takes a few days.
5. I'd get Bluetooth, and I'd definitely get it before I'd get the fingerprint scanner.

Does anyone know if lenovo's website would allow me to return the laptop for a new one if there is a dead pixel?
Is there a lot of issues with dead pixels on this machine?
Should I defiantly buy my machine from their website? -

So does that mean 5 of either and its considered a defect?
And 9 if there just isn't 5 of either? -
besides the mouse, bluetooth is also convenient for connecting with printers and cellphones.
Although a print server is even better than bluetooth. I got a tiny refurb netgear PS121 print server for $29 at tiger direct. Works terrific. -
Integrated Wi-Fi wireless upgradable [subtract $25.00]

Sorry for so much questions but I'm really cracking down on what I should end up getting thanks for sticking with me here, I'm a little excited...
Now they have this deal for 50bucks you can get the ultra base for it. Now, how do you guys get around not having a cd rom drive? When you need a cd do you just put it in a network computer then load the disk onto the laptop like that? Should i spend the 50bucks and get the dock bay. I hardly ever use disks anyways, but you never know I guess. -
ooh, for 50 bucks, that would be a no brainer for me. i'd definitely get it. even tho i already have a usb2 dvdr. But, the dock is also a nice thing to have if you have loats of things connected to the x60, when at home, as i do. Ext. monitor, couple of usb's, pcmcia, etc.... hm, would be alot more convenient to quickly grab the thing and go, with most of the stuff connected to the dock... (except for the pcmcia , which is not av. on the dock..)
-
actually, in case you dont want it, get it anyway and i buy it off you for 60 bucks
-
the 2nd or the 4th, depending if you want wifi N now or in the future. Both of these are atheros.
#3 mean the intel card which isn't nearly as good.
#1 means no wifi -
So how are these machines with a clean install? I was first looking at sony's untill I read how difficult it is to do a install. So glad I found the x60
-
If you have a Windows CD you can use that to reinstall the operating system. All necessary drivers and other ThinkPad software can be downloaded from Lenovo. Just enter your product number on the support web site and it will direct you to a page with all downloads.

Hey you past buyers out there. I'm wondering if lenova has these specials all the time. Right now I'm looking at. Do you think I could get this deal say next month? Or is this special they have going on a rare thing? I'm a student too so do they have a student discount?
From: $1,908.99*
Sale price: $1,687.99* -
they have sales all the time. the best sale is usually back-to-school sale in summer (in the U.S.)
Many U.S. students can get incredible deals on thinkpads (only a couple of specific models tho) limited to one per year. These are even cheaper than internal employee pricing. -
I'm looking for a recommendation on a bluetooth mouse and keyboard for my X41 tablet PC. Suggestions from anyone based on your expereince with bluetooth devices with laptops?
-
the logitech v270 bluetooth mouse is fine. i have a couple of em.
