The mushy keyboard I have is 01YU651 (KBD+Bzl_US,FPR,AlpsTP,B,CHY). If anyone here loves their X1C6 keybaord, can you report back what your part # was? (enter serial # into https://support.lenovo.com/bg/en/partslookup)

OK, entered my serial number (I love my keyboard!) and I don't see anything in the list that is my keyboard.

I snagged a refurb X1C6 that will be delivered tomorrow, found an 8350/16gb/512gb/FHD config and jumped on it. I looked up the parts by typing in my serial number, and I got the AUO FHD LCD, Samsung 512gb SSD, and LG battery. Go figure that the refurb is built with quality components and my CTO has the crappy BOE LCD and Intel SSD. Fingers crossed that the screen won't have defects. -

Refurb arrived today and it is perfect, nice AUO screen and Samsung SSD. Go figure. It is the silver color not black but oh well. I do notice this fan (Nidec) has a slight high pitched noise to it when at full blast which my CTO (also Nidec) does not do. Not at all a deal breaker though.
Tech is coming on Monday morning to swap the defective BOE LCD out of the CTO unit hopefully with the AUO part. If that screen ends up being perfect I'll just return the refurb. If not, I'll settle on the refurb and be done. It'll take some getting used to, a silver ThinkPad. Phew. At least one of the laptops will be a keeper, finally.
Question- my SSD on my CTO is brand new. The SSD on the refurb has about 1TB of data written on it. They are identical Samsung PM981 SSDs. Would they ever know if I keep the refurb and swap the "newer" SSD into it? -

Maybe you can disassemble the machine to find out the exact part number then? -

Has anyone else experienced a significant coil whine from the x1 carbons? Whenever mine is plugged in at 100%, and occasionally even when it is not, there is a clearly audible and annoying sound coming from the usbc charging port. It seems to happen with either port. I bought another from costco, but the new one had the non-lg battery so I didn't even open the box. I like the laptop, but I think im just going to have to return them both. Any ideas?
I also looked at the parts list - it seems both models have the chy keyboard listed under model. I think the keyboard listed under model is the same regardless of what keyboard you actually get. -
I've never experienced coil whine with mine, and I am really anal retentive about noises like that, as I often have fairly intensive work to do on my laptop in extremely quiet rooms. I know that doesn't help you, but at least it's a data point not all of them have that issue. FWIW mine was ordered April 2nd of this year, shipped April 8th.

All the keyboards are chicony yea.
The consensus with older thinkpads is that chicony keyboards are the best for chiclet models, maybe lenovo took a cue and implemented that in their "premium" x1c line -
They all seem to say chicony, but I can tell that they are not all the same. I bought two models and more than just the feel, removing the keycap shows a clear difference between the two models even though they claim the same chicony part. Maybe chicony is the one who lacks qc? -
The two keycaps have the same fru number for the keyboard? -

That same Alps electric also makes touchpads and "trackpoints" (at least for Dell).

but the controller is synaptics last I checked (fully disassemble the trackpad)

My X1C6 drama is finally (hopefully) over. The refurb I got had weird touchpad issues where it would freeze every now and then, and the fan was always on. Also the LCD developed a cluster of 4 bright spots. Returned it.
My CTO with the BOE LCD, tech came out and swapped with AUO screen a couple days ago and same problem, cluster of very bright spots. He came back today with another AUO screen and this time it is flawless. It's actually much better than other AUO panels I've seen on other X1C6 in that the sides aren't dim. Entire panel is uniform. He installed the LCD panel a bit crooked to the point where the very edge of one side of the screen was covered by the bezel. SMH. He blamed it on the LCD and reinstalled the bezel, same thing. I said whatever, it isn't the LCD, it is just installed crooked. He said it is how it is. After he left I gently adjusted the tape / black coating on the LCD cable and that did the trick, LCD is centered within the bezel. The bezel is less sticky yet still sticks. I can easily just buy another one from the parts store for like $20 if I need to at some point.
Happy to finally be able to enjoy the machine. Thanks @Mobius 1 for all the tips, really helpful.huntnyc likes this. -

as I posted before, 6 kb is more mushy compared to 5 -
This is really frustrating... The expected shipment date keeps getting pushed back on my replacement machine. Approaching 60 days now. It is as if Lenovo wants me to cancel and get a refund.

I've had the X1C 6th generation for a month or so, and it's fantastic. I haven't had any of the issues described in this thread. The only problem was the screen gamut bug, which was just fixed with a driver update. The HDR screen is the best laptop screen I've ever used, performance is great, the fan is very quiet (and rarely even on), good keyboard, battery life, fit and finish, and so on.huntnyc likes this. -

I'm thinking of an X1 Yoga instead of Carbon 6, wonder if the HDR screen fix driver also applies there? -
I am about to embark on a clean install of Windows 10 on my ThinkPad X1 Carbon 6th. From what I have read online, I do not foresee any complications using the USB flash drive created by the Windows Media Creation Tool. What is the best way to install the drivers? One by one? Using Lenovo Vantage? Using Lenovo System Update 5? Scanning the machine at the Lenovo Support website? Any guidance and/or tips to accomplish a perfect clean install would be appreciated.

Did anyone try to install Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB (1607) on X1 Carbon (I have license)?
Particular questions is about drivers. Many drivers on lenovo.com have two versions:
- for Windows 10 Version 1703 or earlier, and
- for Windows 10 Version 1709 and later versions
Obviously i need to use driver version "1703 or earlier".
But there is a driver "Fibocom L850-GL Wireless WAN Driver for Windows 10" which is only available in "Version 1709 or later".
What would you recommend to do?
Thanks. -

Hi guys. Just a quick update:
Bios 1.30 ( Download Page) introduced "Optimized Sleep State for Linux" (i.e., A flag that enables good old S3).
I've tested in my Dual Boot box and it works great. Less than 3% battery usage over 10 hours sleep. Zero problems on wake up.
Great stuff!powerslave12r and huntnyc like this. -

I returned my X1C for a full refund from Lenovo due to the mushy keyboard. Did we ever figure out which FRU's were the nice, responsive keyboards we've come to expect? Or is it just just luck of the draw?

Hello, noticed that Lenovo pulled back the August update for Power Management Driver.
There was version 1.67.14.05 released on 21 Aug 2018 (the file name is n20ku12w_x64.exe).
The downloads section currently has version 1.67.14.04 from 23 May 2018 (the file name is n20ku10w_x64.exe).
If someone installed version 14.05 from August 21st, could you please let us know have you noticed any issues so far?
Need to decide which one to use with a fresh install of Windows.
Thanks. -
On my T450s I installed the driver and it would no automatically start its service at startup causing loss of my onscreen display for hot keys. Went back to old driver and all is well.

Could please someone confirm is ChromaTune only works with WQHD and HDR WQHD displays and not with FHD? Thank you.
BTW, bought 2 laptops with the same config (20KHCTO1WW Type 20KH). And one of them is already having a bright white spot on the display (about 2mm in diameter). That is only a few weeks after they arrived. I actually not used them at all, just unpacked and turned on. And only started to install everything today. So this is not a pressure issue - seems like the quality of LCD. -
does this come with a 14inch/nvidea (150/1050ti) config? !
-
if they're still in return period why not just push for a refund? or get lenovo to honor a one time onsite service to replace the faulty displays with the threat of a refund (given if the machines don't have onsite warranty service). -
I also have another question. I left laptop in sleep (lid close or FN+4) on battery to see what will happen. So the battery drain was from 72% down to 32% during one night. I googled and seems that X1 Carbon 6 gen still doesn't have S3 sleep with little to no battery drain. Is it true? No solution? I hoped to say bye-bye to windows hibernation with X1. -
be sure to over-dramatize the screen problem, additional horrific details will help a lot when you are trying to get a complete screen replacment
always be adamant and only want to talk to the highest ranked manager on duty
do you have the smart sleep driver installed and the option enabled in Lenovo vantage (under power settings)?
I used LTSB 1607 with chromatune and it starts up properly, but that was earlier this year. Maybe the new version of Chromatune needs newer version of windows?
I have the 1803/1804 version of LTSB, I give you the ISO download link if you PM mealiv likes this.
