Hi all,
Has anyone had a chance to check if the WWAN M.2 slot in the new Gen3 X1 Carbon can accept an M.2 2242 SSD card? It's keyed properly (B key), and the chipset has spare SATA lanes that could / should be routed to the slot, so the only question is whether Lenovo did us the favor of actually routing the lanes to the slot...!
Thanks in advance

I haven't tried, but I'd sure like to know too. Thanks to anyone who finds out.

Interesting about the routing lanes. It didn't work on the x1 Gen2.

Well, to answer my own question: my X1 Gen3 arrived yesterday, and today I tested an M.2 SSD in the WWAN slot....
It doesn't work.
First, the WWAN M.2 slot in the X1 Gen3 is single-sided only (insufficient height for M.2 cards with chips on both sides), and second, it apparently doesn't have SATA lanes routed to the slot.
Oh well - now to figure out how to live with only 512 GB of space!

This is how I handled the 512 gigs of space. I prioritized my storage. Put things onto the internal M.2 drive that I used pretty often. I then put everything else on one of these:

It works quite well, at least for me. I got a couple virtual machines on there in addition to my music collection.
