Lenovo is spilling the beans today on the new lineup, below is taken from the press release for today:

I got a chance to see some of these new models, though I apologize did not get to use the new keyboard for enough time to really pass any judgment. I think the X1 is going to be pretty appealing, 1600 x 900 screen in a 14-inch form factor under 3lbs. Tasty.

The X1 Carbon looks interesting, especially if it's got a decent screen.

    Something to drool about.

I guess us ordinary users will have to put up with these changes.

Print screen button where the menu key should be (I guess remapping is an annoying possibility)
    No back/forward navigation buttons.
No grouping of the function buttons into fours.

I'm starting to feel like these products are mere ordinary computers put into thinkpad costumes.

I'm interested in knowing what discrete graphics they're putting in and the contrast ratios of the screens they're putting in.

The IPS screen option is interesting. Hopefully upcoming windows 8 can handle wide-gamut monitors such that ordinary graphics don't appear supersaturated; otherwise the choice of a wide-gamut monitor will bring the same issues that come when one purchases a desktop wide-gamut LCD.

I'm sorry to be so negative on a new product announcement, but the change in the keyboard layout is very disappointing.

Well, I wasn't going to buy a new laptop anyway; I'm hoping this T400 can last a few more years.

Jealous of the better cooling, backlit keyboard, and better audio (all the complaining worked!) of the X230. Is it thinner?

While IPS screens are great, I don't think you need something that great. I'd settle for something with a decent sweet sport like the Air.

Doesn't look so. The X1 model appears to have most of the improvements: 1600x900 screen, weight dropped from 3.7lbs to 3lbs, USB3, 0.7" thin, backlit keyboard, and fully charges in ~40min or so. Not bad at all.

Are you sure it's not a typo? X1 was supposed to be 13.3" if I'm not mistaken.

Edit: I see everyone reports 14", so it looks like a rebranded T430u indeed.

There are a ton of links in the other "Upcoming" thread posted by ALLurGroceries: http://forum.notebookreview.com/len...430-t430i-t530-t530i-w530-64.html#post8523809

The one that was the most interesting was this:
Lenovo Unveils 9 New ThinkPads, Complete With Ivy Bridge, HD+ Screens

To quote: "1600 x 900 Screens: Though not all the notebooks will come standard with HD+ resolution screens, a Lenovo rep told us they will be optional upgrades on any L, T, and X series that don’t have them by default."

Yes. This means the X230 should have an option to get a higher res screen :D

Oh! And per the first link in the above post, it appears that the ThinkLight will remain in conjunction with the backlighting.

Now the question is, should I buy an X220 now for cheap? Or buy an x230?
If I bought an X220, I suppose I could pick up the X231(x240?) which may address certain issues with the x230....

The X230 looks like everything I wished it would be if the screen resolution of 1600x900 is true. Faster, IPS screen and longer battery life... I wonder if it still has the old VGA port or if it got any slimmer?

    X230 looks like the X220 with a X1 keyboard.

If you can get the X220 cheap, it is still a worthwhile purchase.

On the X1 Carbon picture, there seems to be a gap between the F key groups (very nice for touch typing). However, the T, X and W keyboards don't seem to have this. Puzzled, why they would only put it onto the X1 Carbon?

The X1C keyboard has some subtle differences when compared to say the T430. Maybe Lenovo wanted to continue the premium Stradivarius design points for the top dog.

Are we sure the W530 is gonna offer an IPS monitor? The press release didn't say that it would. Laptopreviews only mentions it in the small paragraph "before the jump." In their detailed release, there is no mention of an IPS monitor.

I'm surprised with the 95% gamut, as it would suggest the same AUO B156HW01 V.4 panel. On the other hand, that panel is not produced any more, so I don't know.

Also, it would be the first laptop to combine IPS with Optimus, what I don't know how they can do. It would mean an additional circuit to make the screen work in 8-bit mode, or maybe 10-bit mode is now supported on HD4000?

You do realize that there's no "special hardware" needed to run IPS displays, right?

But if that turns out to be true, and the mountings are the same (for the W520), I want that screen.

Special hardware IS required for 10-bit screens. Look into why 8560w and M4600 has different motherboards to support the 10-bit screen, and also why you cannot have Optimus with 10-bit screens.

Of course, if you are talking about 6-bit IPS, like Sony SE or Envy 15, then yes, just for being IPS you don't need different hardware.

Well, not that I didn't know it was coming, but I got my X220 just over 4 weeks ago and that 900 screen option on the X230 is making me drool - it is the ONLY thing I really wanted on my X220.

I guess it's too late to ask Lenovo for a 'store' credit to buy the X230.....sigh...

Or will the W530/T530 FHD upgrade be the same screen as used in the W510/T510 and W520/T520?

It doesn't look so. Or at least Lenovo doesn't know about it yet. Both ThinkPad T430u UltraBook and ThinkPad X1 Carbon jointly appear in the New Product Showcase.

Is there actually any leaked specs or confirmation that X230 will indeed get HD+ (1600x900) option? I'd be pleasantly suprised but have my doubts about it. The New Product Showcase only says "Wideview IPS display for easy collaboration". Is there at all any manufacturer who would be currently producing these panels (1600x900 @ 12.5")?

Such a hard decision of whether to upgrade to the X230... I'll get 1600x900, but at the loss of a full keyboard.

What are the chances that we can stick the X230 panel into an X220?

All very good news! I have an eye on either the T430s or the X230, whichever is cheaper. Though... I am disappointed to see that the X230 has a very short palmrest, despite the elimination of one row of keys from the keyboard.

Meh. Always other vendors to pick from. Dell, HP, Apple, Samsung...

Their notebooks will be coming out in June too, with the new Ivy Bridge chips. So if Lenovo has disappointed anyone this time around, always know that there are other vendors around.

i'm disappointed that lenovo didnt offer thunderbolt across more of their laptops, especially the X1, as i'm not buying a new pc without thunderbolt.

other than that, the X1 looks like a killer computer. one of the best ever designed.

also kinda surprised lenovo didnt include any high, high res screens like apple is rumored to. that may tip me toward a mbp, especially if the redesign is the use of carbon across all models.

I'm sure once retina displays from Apple become official, all other notebook vendors will follow and whatever new resolutions offered by Apple will become defacto standards within the industry within a few years.

Well, to be fair, lots of vendors matched and beat Apple to the punch with HD+ and full-HD on laptops...although yes, I expect Apple to be the first to market with >FHD res on their laptops given their focus on 'resolutionary' products.

I would replace my X220T with a X230T+1600x900 IPS screen. And of course with the right price and coupons. :p That would be a big upgrade for me since I look at spreadsheets a lot at my work.

But I wish there's more information regarding the number of displays it can support. I want to be able to drive two external monitors and have the laptop display working at the same time. And I don't mean duplicated desktops either, I wanted extended!!!

You realize that the "old" X1 had in fact a glossy display? The display itself was matte, but because of the gorilla glass the result was very glossy. I don't know about the new model though.

Edit: Sorry, I have misread your post. So know for a fact that the new one will be matte?
