The ThinkPad X1 will come with the new battery technology. It's a thin battery with triple capacity compare to other batteries. The battery comes with Rapid Charge technology. The battery can be 80% charged in 30 minutes.

The X1 looks like a 13 in version of ThinkPad Edge without optical drive.

 

Glossy screen? Or at least looks like very reflective if those are real pictures (photographs I mean).

 

Can We Please Get A 1600x900 Option?

 

Interesting, although I don't see why this computer would have to have a different name than the X120e and Edge series: it seems to be pretty much the same type of laptop. Specs are nice, although not all that impressive. A 1600x900 screen would be nice to see, but its absence is also not surprising.

 

That is what I was thinking. I know how you feel, I was hoping for an x301 successor with HD+. I feel so disappointed about Lenovo's release this year. Why can't they release a laptop with decent HD+ screen for 12-14 from factor.

 

Even sony is dragging its feet with the Vaio SA, which is supposed to have a 1600x900 premium display. Very frustrating, I have excellent eyesight, and I want high resolution.

 

Ouch. X1 is not even a convertible tablet. It's so 20th century.

 

I really hope the resolution isn't 1366x768

 

In fact they are transitioning to the more advanced resolution, 16 pixels by 9 pixels. Each pixel will be represented by a light bulb. And if you have a dead pixel you can simply go to a Walmart store and replace it with a new bulb. Yea!

That screen doesn't look 16:9, does it? The trackpad is also very tall, and really, everything just looks squished horizontally. I'm pretty sure this is a shopped E420s, with the buttons moved.

Does someone have a link to some real information? Looks like a new machine is coming out I've never even heard of.

If this is Lenovo's answer to the MacBook Air, could one of you more fully describe the battery life and storage options?

A 13.3" 16:9 1366x768 screen doesn't have me jumping up and down for joy. I'd much rather have the 1440x900 res on the mac or the 1600x900 res of the T420s.

 

Well hang on here fellas... are you telling me that information on the internet can be unreliable, and that pictures can be falsified?!?

On a more serious note, no. None of us can. Those of us that are in a position to do so cannot divulge any information they may or may not have, and the rest of us are just sitting around idly speculating with a healthy dose of wishing.

 

My bad. I thought from erik's answers that maybe an embargo had been lifted of some sort. Hope the real answers come soon.

Well, the price will tell.
Maybe from the business vantage point this is well calculated move, but for the geek like me - that X1 (if it is X1) remains in a nothing-to-write-home-about category.

 

Judging by the way screens are getting more letterbox-like, more like 16x1 pixels...

 

Seems like it would be more of an "Edge 320", but the SSD and 8gb (standard?) suggests it's meant to be higher end. Would be nice if it had a higher resolution, but unless it were optional, I imagine the base price would be rather steep. A 1440x900/1600x900 display could put a notebook like that in the $2k range.

Is it just me or does Lenovo have a problem with this machine? IPS is great and all, but 1366x768? Really? No thanks. I expect a 13" machine, especially a premium machine, to be 1600x900.

And I am not interested in the keyboard, at all.

The battery life sounds good but it remains to be seen in practice how effective this machine is.

Lenovo seems to have little quirks and issues in each of the new machines. Can we get a perfect ThinkPad in my lifetime? Please?

 

I'm surprised at how many people will instantly disregard the Edge keyboards without any experience or prior knowledge on the subject and simply refuse to give it a chance (sorry if you've actually tried the keyboard before, this is just a general trend I've been noticing). Countless reviews have confirmed that it rivals or is, in some cases, even better than the normal thinkpad keyboards. It maintains the exact same feel, keyswitch mechanism, concave keys, etc. as on the traditional thinkpad keyboards. This site mentioned in their review that if you closed your eyes you probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference. In fact, I actually prefer the island format as it's a lot more difficult to get gunk under the keys.

Unfortunately I don't think the Lenovo will ever really develop a "perfect" Thinkpad for you or me, for one simple reason: we aren't the core customer base for Thinkpads. Lenovo is going to cater to the majority userbase of Thinkpads, and that's not us. There's no need for them to introduce needless features that the majority of business users don't need.

 

I can live with the keyboard but considering I use several ThinkPads, even the small changes impact my typing. If it was going to be my only machine I wouldn't worry about it, at all.

I will reserve further judgement on the entire machine until I have had a chance to get some actual hands on time.

 

The only beef I have with the x1 is that the resolution. The keyboard would be fine, the one on the X120e is OK. I am going to go out on a limb that the x1 will have 2.5mm keystroke like the regular Thinkpad, which is better than the 2.0mm on the x120e. The key mechanism are the same, and the curve on the edge are same as the regular.

I can live with 720p resolution on a 13" display. It works fine for me on my current Acer. Always wanted an X301 but by the time I could afford one, the internals were over-the-hill. Hopefully, this one won't be that much more than the X220. Any guess on price? My wife has been using my Acer more and more (she likes the speed) and I'm getting nervous that she'll just keep it one day.

Only up to 5 hours of battery life, 10 with slice..

 

I don't think the outdoor 350 nits panel will be gloss.

5 hour battery? That sucks. A 9 cell would probably ruin its beautiful lines. It's love at first sight. 2.8 lbs!

An X1 would be a hell of a start. I certainly want one. Yet hard choices must be made.

The problem is that my Acer works perfectly well. I do like this X1 though.

My wife is getting tired of her Lenovo Atom/Ion S12. She likes using my Acer because it's lightening fast and she can see the display better.

Knowing that, I was tempted by the X220 but I like a 13" display for the extra real estate. 720p is fine with me on a 13" display. IPS would be nice. I like to work on my deck on the weekends so the 350 nits outdoor display looks great. Can you hear the wheels turning?

The specs look good for the X1. Waiting to see about the price and the initial reviews before I get too excited.

Will this have a docking port for docking stations?

 

Places bet the X1 doesn't work in the existing docks.

 

no docking station will fit, only a USB solution, same way as we saw at the X301..

might have to hold off on ordering the x220 to see how this one turns out. I would definitely rather have the 13" (although I would like to see a little higher resolution), but if the price is too high, I'll have to go with the x220. Judging by the 2600 CHF price they have, this one will be out of my college student budget.

 

We should know more information about the product by May 7.

 

I hope we see something soon. I was going to buy the X220 but now I'm going to wait to see this. This seems like a nice machine to carry around but I'm still not keen on the resolution just like the X220. Hopefully we'll see a 1600x900 for both machines.

 

I dare to say that the X1 is a Dell Adamo by Lenovo.

 

Hopefully it will not be a flop like the Adamo. It need to have a decent battery life in order to compete with the Air.

 

X220t with outdoor screen.... and S12 is just a netbook.
