Finally, some official details on the X200 successors!!
-
Awesome, I can't wait till it's released. I'm definitely looking at this for a second system.
-
- Core i7-620M option for X201
- Core i7-620LM option for X201s
- Stereo speakers on X201 (mono for X201s)
- 2MB webcam option (like other 2010 ThinkPads)
- Fingerprint reader status LED
- Same ports as X200 (no ESATA, no HDMI, no DisplayPort, separate mic and headphone jacks)
- Same keyboard as X200
- Palmrest options both with and without touchpads
- Compatibility with X200 Ultrabase
- The WXGA+ display remains exclusive to the (s) models
-
What's with the difference in speakers between the X201 and X201s?
-
the x201s has a mono speaker facing down do the right of the touchpad. the X201/201i has stereo speakers facing downward on either side of the touchpad.

Will they be using the same current screens or up-grade to something much better? I like a touchpad option and 2 speakers... now we will have to wait and see how hot they run
-
-
No Displayport = no way for me. At least now I have even fewer options to choose from
-
-
CCFL no longer being offered goes without saying. LED is on everything now.
CCFL panels, however, can be retrofitted on an X201 given enough parts are replaced. the system planar doesn't care what's attached as long as the correct cable and inverter are used. -
I don't really understand what the fundamental difference is between the X201 and X201s that would prevent them from having the same speaker system, lol.
-
I like how a touchpad is optional now - in fact, if it was available on the X200, I may have chosen it over my T500! -
-
What if I want stereo speakers with a WXGA+?
-
So is the fastest x201 cpu the same as the fastest t410 offered?
-
the cpu's offered will be the i3-330M, i5-430M, i5-520M, i5-540M, i7-620M, i7-620LM and i7-640LM.
I assume the LM's are for the X201s; I wish they would have the i5-520UM i7-620/640UM as well.
But yet, they'll have the i7-620M which is currently the best T410 processor. Seems logical, just as they had the P8600 that the T400 had available (although that wasn't the best T series processor available). I'm real anxious to see the battery life comparisons of the SL+intel integrated vs the i7 low voltage with the on die intel integrated. -
Anand suggested that Intel might not have fully optimized its designs for the 32nm process, so a few months down the road, we may see new a stepping for the i3/5/7 processors that are more power efficient than the current versions. -

Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
Engadget picked up on this thread. X201s with the 620LM looks nice.
-
I'm happy they chose the i7-620LM with 1066 MHz memory bus over the i5-520UM i7-620/640UM which are 800 MHz bus. I would have preferred the LE chips with the ECC memory option however.
The mono speaker on the X201s is the only bummer. -
I wonder what the X201is is. Is that like the X201s but with the i3 cpu of the X201i?
-
thinkpad knows best Notebook Deity
Woa how can the X201's use i7's????
-
-
-
-
Well the X201i has an i3 cpu, what would be the specs on the X201is?

So will we see more heat in the new X2XX series? And have they published the weight as well ? The exact weight of the machines? To be honest I am looking at a newer Samsung netbook since it has been a joy to use on my travels and has a great screen, truly great matte screen. It is LED but for some unexplicable reason it does not cause me eyestrain where the lenovo LED screen does. I cannot figure it out. If Samsung produced a light notebook withthat same screen and keyboard, same weight as X200s or so I would probably not even look at Lenovo. My current little Samsung netbook survived 2 months in the Amazon without a glitch. I will subject an X200 series to that as well and report. Meanwhile I don't see a reason to pay more for an X201 since the price difference with the now old series here in Europe will probably be ridiculous as per usual.
-
I don't think a netbook and an X series are in the same class to be compared. That would go against something like an S10-3, and if just comparing form factors, the u150 packs more power with out sacrificing significant battery life though. Not to hate on netbooks though, I love my 1000HE.
I don't believe the heat will increase. I think they will be similar on the 35w TDP models, and less on the 25w models. I'm more concerned about the battery life. Even with the i7 low voltage models, I think it'll be hard pressed to compete with the SU/SL culv's of the prior generation. -
Will the model without touchpad is smaller than the one has touchpad? I have never use a trackpoint before. Does it work better than touchpad?
-
@MAA83 the SL cpu is a LV close to 18w cpu not an ULV. -
- There is no X201is
- There is no X201si either
- We are the source of the Engadget story, so they know nothing more than we do.
-
Whoops my bad, I did it again, I meant to say X201isi, unless that is a mistake also.
-
-
the X200si is only available in some markets (not the US) and sports a culv su7xxx processor.
The refreshed series is limited to an x201, x201i, and x201s.
the x201 will have the i5/i7, the x201i will have the i3, and the x201s will have the i5-620LM/640LM. I believe those are accurate.
Similarly, it looks like lenovo is going to release a T410i, 510i, and 410si based on the i3's as well. It seems as though they will be announced next Tuesday.

There is no x201isi, is, Si, type S, type R, GT, GT-R, etc. -
Whoops my bad, I did it again, I meant to say X201si, unless that is a mistake also. I guess I am reading the wrong info my bad.

I noticed engadget's mention of an x201si. That's a mistake. There is no mention of it anywhere else save their announcement. But even they don't mention an isi. The hardware manual only mentions the x201s, x201, and x201i.
