This was my big gripe with the X201T Outdoor Viewable Display. No Multitouch on the 400 Nits display. The I5 SB CPU and HD 3000 GPU is perfect for a convertible tablet. Hopefully the refreshed Elitebook 'vert will have an outdoor display with multitouch.
Nice to see the X220's starting to arrive. Congratulations to all of you. It looks like the best non-dedicated GPU notebook on the market ATM. Eager to read your reviews.

@ZaZ
The features I like best in comparison to my T42 are the faster application and boot times, and the quite a bit longer battery life. The SD card slot is a nice addition for transferring photos from my digital camera's memory card.
On my new X220 it takes about 28 seconds from pressing the power on button to the login screen. It takes me about 7 seconds to type in my password. 35 seconds to this point.
Then I have the desktop at 40 seconds and WiFi internet connected at 50 seconds from power on.
I have done nothing to trim the Lenovo original install. I have Windows 7 fully updated and other programs installed. -

Does anyone have an est ship date before the second week in May, mine is 5/16? Even if they ship a week earlier than expected that's a over two weeks from now. I think I may pick up a cheap Thinkpad from craigslist for the interim.
-
Hey guys, I ordered my first IBM/Lenovo laptop. I've owned all sorts of laptops. Through my experience, my biggest concern is motherboard noise (as opposed to fan or hard drive noise). I'm sure you're all familiar with that high frequency sound that can only be heard in a very quiet room, usually less apparent when voltage is coming through a power cord vs. the battery.
Apple laptops seem to do a much better job at silencing this. Perhaps due to their aluminum casing (?), though I have no idea. Can anyone chime in on their experience with lenovo laptops and circuit board noise? -
-
The rep actually told me that it would be earlier than that, and that the ship dates are currently "a little out of whack" on these.
Hopefully so! -
When do they typically assign serial numbers?
-
Overall not as bad as the iMac. That thing drove me absolutely nuts when I first got it but got used to it over time -
-
5/16 here, and I though that was bad. I hope these estimates are extremely conservative. -

Going to order the tablet as soon as the i5 is available.
Should I put a screen protector on the thing since I will be using the pen a lot? -
I talked to a Lenovo rep today. He said the delay is attributed a shortage of battery supply, particularly the 6 cell. He also said there is a possibility that the ship date is inflated, largely a guess at this point until they get more supply, so who knows.
-
Anyone order the 9-cell, what's your ship date? Considering it's only $10 more I'd be willing to reorder it with that if it makes a significant improvement in the ship date.
EDIT: dadoes has the 9-cell and he's with the rest of us. -
The 9-cell seems unusually cheap as an upgrade--if it's true that the 6-cell battery are in short supply, it seems to be a no-brainer to spend $10 more to get the 9-cell battery.
It's hard not to want to jump on the X220 bandwagon, especially with the very, very reasonable X220i + IPS price. I configured a hypothetical system with a battery, screen, and WiFi card upgrade--which is all I need--and got to just under $900, without any discounts. Add in some discounts and an 80GB mSATA drive (and remove the main drive), and it'd be an awesome notebook for me.
But, I already have a T500 that more than meets my performance needs, and an X120e that also more than meets my needs that I got for a total of less than half of what an X220 would cost me. So, maybe I'll hold out until a hypothetical X240
On the other hand, though, I did manage to convince my dad to arrange for the IT department to upgrade his T60 to a new X220! -

I ordered mine late on the 19th and my expected ship is 5/13. Hoping that will change. -

Doesn't Lenovo do a big sale for Memorial Day every year? Would we see better prices a month down the road?

Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
This sleeve I just bought.

What's the best ssd to purchase with this system. I'm looking for a drive that will fit without any modification.
I currently have a vertex 2 and reading reviews, I know it won't fit (currently in a x120e). -

I meant something like this
Newegg.com - Intel 320 Series SSDSA2CW120G3K5 2.5" 120GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)
Could I just take off the spacer without voiding the warranty? -
My G2 and 320 do not have blocking stickers or coated screws that indicate the case was opened, therefor there is no way for them to deny a warranty claim based on this. -
I wonder if this applies to the vertex 2... I would rather not get rid of it.
So with my vertex 2, there is a warranty sticker. I don't really care to break the sticker, but would the drive be safe without the spacer? It'll be fully exposed (like ram). -
-
Minicard slots might be a good example, they usually seem to be lined with an ESD safe film or plastic to isolate from the motherboard.
With the intel drives you can still leave them inside the case, its only the outside spacer that is removed. -
I'll be purchasing this Newegg.com - Intel 320 Series SSDSA2CW120G3K5 2.5" 120GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)
removing the spacer and im guessing the screws will be too big? -

Lenovo Frustration
Lenovo has got to be one the most arrogant computer manufacturer on planet earth. What type of company leaves its customers in the dark to figure out questions among themselves? Sadly, the only way a person is going to obtain information (beyond the outdated PDF brochure) is to wait until actual customers have the unit in their hands and then report back to us (information hungry forum users) the answers to questions Lenovo doesnt want to be bothered with.
Dont get me wrong, I like the build quality of Lenovo and think its a good product but if Lenovo would just use an economy of effort listening instead of ignoring questions, this forum would only be a few pages long. Would someone please send the Brass at Lenovo Hearing Aids! -
-
Is this a joke?
My post asking everybody to NOT POST anything else but hands on experience here (see thread title) GETS DELETED (without notification) and all the off topic stuff here stays?...the off-topic drivel even continues! So somebody of the off-topic trolls reported me and the mods failed to see the point?
Great, you should say so on the first page, I would not have joined this place three years ago then, because if that is the case, this forum is determined to frustrate even though it has the potential to be a great source of information. How short sighted can you get?
Again:
Why not leave this thread to actual owners so they can state their experience and share the peculiarities of the devices so everybody else interested can easily read along - instead one get's flooded by the same questions and meaningless discussions even in the "owners thread" - what a shame!
There are a ton of other threads where you can ask questions and discuss assumptions! -
P.S. - Watch the potty mouth. This is a G rated forum and it will not be tolerated. -
The problem is that very few of us (if any) have received his/her x220 yet. I ordered mine so it will come in a month, I hope.
-
I do agree to some extend that 'My X220 will ship next month!' and 'Is this a good configuration to order?' seem out of place in a 'ThinkPad X220 (i/t) Owners Thread'
-
I actually have several questions before pulling the trigger on mine, and I would be very grateful for the opportunity to pose them to this community. Where is the right thread for that? Start a new one? I don't want to break any thread protocols...
