My AC Adapter makes a high pitched noise. It seems like everyone else has this same problem as well. Call IBM Technical Support to have them send you a new one.

    Update:
I just received the AC Adapter thanks to overnight shipping by IBM. The noise is completely gone. The new adapter is 90W instead of 65W. The size of the new power brick is heavier and bigger than the original one.

i noticed the same problem with my new x61s. my hunch: the noise gets louder as the ac adapter gets hotter.

i called hardware support at georgia. they said they'd get back to me in the next two days. they said it could be a safety issue since many others have the same problem.

What does it mean if I have high pitched whine when my T61 is on battery. Like High-pitched whine beeps. long and short.

I think I read somewhere that it could be a short, but why when only on battery?

Also could it be the speedstep technology of the core 2 duo managing the cpu?

edit** its coming from the speakers so I don't know.

Can you place your ears next to the speakers and hear if there are any noises?

Also, is it just me or is the fan rather loud?

It might be the CPU making the high pitch whine. Have you tried using RMclock?

I did. I said to try RMclock. Do a search of the forum for RMclock and you will see how to configure it so that you CPU doesn't whine. It has to do with the sleep states of the processor.

My fan is also quite audible. The bottom of the laptop is pretty cool though. I hope a future BIOS update will fix this.
