I was all set to buy the Broadwell Yoga 14, until I saw the updated version on Best Buy's website. What caught my attention is the included digital pen (stored and charges in a built-in slot!) and the standard 256GB SSD. They didn't even have it on display, but I thought it's worth the premium for the Skylake update, pen and SSD. Very unlike me to buy a laptop at full MSRP, but a Best Buy coupon and 10% back helped![]()
A few things that may be helpful to you guys looking into this. First is the original Lenovo OneLink dock will no longer work this this which is a huge bummer for me. There is a new OneLink+ port on it, but looks like you will have to plug in the power separately, unlike on the original OneLink the power and docking port are combined into a single plug. This new dock is not yet available.
Second is Lenovo changed from a Synaptics trackpad/trackpoint to Elan. Something very weird is happening with the Elan driver on Windows 10. Using Internet Explorer, some sites (such as msn.com) will not scroll with the Elan trackpad or even the trackpoint using the middle button, and when it does scroll it is extremely sensitive - scroll just a tiny bit and it flies down several pages. No amount of fiddling with the various mouse and Elan driver settings makes a difference. I downgraded to a previous version of Elan driver and it scrolls fine for the most part, but I have noticed the smooth scrolling sometimes stops working. What I mean by this is instead of being able to smoothly scroll a single pixel, it will jump several lines. The downgrade of the driver kind of messed up my mouse cursor too.
The SSD is a LiteOn LCH-256V2S. I haven't opened the bottom yet but it's most likely a 2.5" drive, another bummer as I was hoping it's an M.2 drive so I can add another 2.5" drive in it.
Another change is you lose the rotation lock button, but you gain a mini Displayport output.
The i5-6200U performs about the same as the i7-5500U, from the few rounds of Passmark I ran. Not sure that's saying much as the U series i7 is a marketing gimmick to squeeze money out of you.
The OneLink port change and the Elan trackpads might be deal breakers for me. I was all set to buy a couple of the older OneLink dock which can be found cheap. When the OneLink+ comes up in Q4, I'm sure it will be full price for a while. Hope this helps out. This info would've been helpful to me - I probably would've stayed with the Broadwell version knowing what I know now.
