So i have been using the IdeaPad Yoga 2 Pro for couple of days now, and i have been using the ThinkPad Yoga for about 5 weeks. I have to say, there are more things to like about the IdeaPad Yoga 2 Pro than the ThinkPad Yoga. It seems that the IdeaPad Yoga 2 Pro is closer to the ThinkPad DNA than the ThinkPad Yoga is. Here are some of the features in Yoga 2 Pro that the ThinkPad Yoga are missing:

    1. Cap Lock button with a LED indicator on it.

    2. Rubberised finish for top and button casing, rather than the hard finish of the ThinkPad Yoga.

    3. Soft touch palmrest, i have to say this is lovely, it reminds me of a ThinkPad X30x machine.

    4. Legacy Keyboard function. You can disable the multimedia shortcut key, and directly enable the legacy mode in the BIOS menu (which the ThinkPad Yoga and all new ThinkPads are missing).

    5. Great TrackPad.

    6. Lenovo Energy Manager in Windows 8.1, with Express Charging, Battery Reset, and Battery Health Mode (which charges to 60% level to reduce battery wear). The ThinkVantage Power Manager is missing in ThinkPad of Windows 8.

    7. Just one set of Lenovo logo on the lid, and another one on the screen bezel. Very clean look. On the ThinkPad, there are too many branded logo, slightly messy.

Obviously, the IdeaPad Yoga 2 Pro has its faults, such as:

    a. Pentile Screen with that weird yellow colour.
    b. Off centre touchpad.
    c. Short travel keyboard with cramped right shift, backspace, and enter key.

    ========================

If i could put a trackpoint and a better keyboard (and maybe a different screen panel) on the IdeaPad Yoga 2 Pro, i would have it over any ThinkPad of this generation.

The lesson learned here: don't buy any Lenovo products with the word Yoga in it. I believe any crossings from Lenovo's consumer end ruins the ThinkPad moniker.

Well to be perfectly honest, any non-X/T/W (and L to an extent) is basically a consumer class laptop. Though i am wondering if their premium lineup will suffer as well, from what i heard, this is the case.

I wasn't saying anything different. The only "real" ThinkPads I consider real are: Z, W, T, R (old R, R400/500 and earlier), X, and X series Tablet. Everything else can kick the bucket!

They don't make Z/R. (Z is Ideapad now).

X series tablet was canned for Yoga, probably to cut costs.

They dropped Z after Intel's Napa platform and they turned R into L after Intel's Montevina platform.

Day by day, my TPY excitement gets shattered!! Now I'm more confused whether to invest in the TPY or not.

@lead_org: didn't you mention you "love" the TPY in google hangout on youtube? :p ;)

I have had both. The Yoga 2 Pro is a very nice machine and a great value with the equipment it has. I never noticed the yellow issue until people started pointing it out. Every display looks a little different. With the resolution of that screen, it looked beautiful. I had quality control issues with mine. The first one was near perfect and I would have kept it except for the trackpad was somehow defective. Sometimes it would just stop working for a few seconds like a loose contact. Reloading the system could not fix it. Returned and got the second one, but the screen had lots of light bleed and the keys were not backlit evenly. It did not feel as good as the first one. Ordered the Thinkpad Yoga and have been absolutely thrilled so far. Solid machine. No imperfections. OneLink Pro dock works as promised. Trying to decide whether or not to pull off the screen protector. I have found no negatives although I would have liked a slightly larger battery.
    Love the TPY!
