I have been searching for a new notebook for home use..email, web browsing, light business applications, light gaming and school use for high school students. I came acrosss this deal thru AMEX and and ordered the Z60M (2530-38U) last month. Web price was $2449, I paid $1565. Still waiting for delivery however.
I always thought Thinkpads were more business oriented so I'm still somewhat unsure if this system is more than what I need. (Some features I just don't need..ie: Fingerprint reader)
I guess price was more of an influence on purchase than system config.
Looking for thoughts/comments on this laptop. Should I look at other options? Was looking at Dell 6000, maybe save a few dollars?

Well . . . this might be the wrong forum if you are looking for a Dell recommendation over a Thinkpad. :) (And cross posting will just get you in trouble). My personal belief is that Dell Inspirons are not particularly solidly built. Latitudes cost about a much as Thinkpads, but are reasonably well built (other than looks, of course, but that is coming from a Thinkpad owner--clearly, beauty is in the eye of the beholder).

But the real question is, what do you need ? For example, unless you need a high speed 3D rendering capability (i.e., mostly for games, although some professional graphic design software also makes use of 3D graphics), you don't need an X600.

There is a FAQ at the top of the Hardware section that will walk you thru your requirements. I really suggest you have a look at it and post it to the Hardware section.

It looks like a great laptop for a great price, what more do you want? Dell? Don't make me laugh.
