    Hey all,

Haven't posted in a while. Just thought I would check back in with an update about an underappreciated aspect of ThinkPad toughness...

I have a very, very active 10-month-old daughter. She gets into everything. She has already broken a cell phone and a car alarm remote by grabbing them off a side table and chewing on them.

Anyway, I can't tell you how much peace of mind it is to have a laptop with a locking metal case. My daughter has actually lost interest in it, because she can't open it or do anything with it.

Now if only Lenovo would adopt the Apple-style magnetic power cord they would have a truly childproof product...

Fortunately the power connector on the T60 is pretty tough and is not one of those fragile 90 degree angle plugs thats breaks easily if yanked (and resists being pulled out, therefore pulling the laptop with it).

By locking metal case you mean the two hinges/clips that must be moved in order to open the case? Appose to just have a hingless case that can be opened without effort?

That's awesome, just make sure to close the laptop when done, our PR contact at Lenovo was talking about his toddler son once and apparently his son started "playing" with his work T60 notebook by shoving some type of object (I think a screw driver that was next to the laptop) under the keys and popping them off. They heard the commotion from another room and ran in, but 4 or 5 keys had already met their end.

    Kids.

Heh... ours managed to pop a couple of keys off my wife's R51, but they popped back on with not much trouble. :)

Yeah, the latch is the key. Our daughter is pretty strong and could probably open up even a stiff lid if it didn't have a latch.

Of course, by the time she's two or three, she may figure it out, but hopefully by then she'll understand a little better what she's doing...
