    ThinkPad shipped early

    For informational purposes...

    On December 14 I ordered a fairly customized T500. Just before I clicked 'order' I noted the estimated ship date: 12/22/09. Right after I clicked 'order' it changed to 12/30/09.

    On 12/18/09 I received an email that my new computer was shipping and that tracking info would be available today (12/19/09).

    It's possible that my build was moved up because the day after I ordered I phoned support and asked to speak to a manager about the 8 day difference in estimated ship dates. I never got a manager, but after a bit of prodding the gentleman who answered did transfer me to someone in the U.S. The person said he would see what he could do about prioritizing my order. My best guess is this is something that they tell everyone who calls to complain about dramatically changed ship dates.

    I've ordered computers online before and, generally speaking, the ship dates are worst-case scenarios. I have found that most manufacturers under promise and over deliver.

    I just received my T400 on the date it was supposed to ship (12/18).

    Mine says it's shupped but after 3 days there is no tracking number.

    Should I call Lenovo?

    shipping date does depend on your specc, if you ordered the machine without heavily upgrading from the standard spec, then these machine can be shipped out in a relatively short timeframe.

    I had upgraded the screen and the hard drive (to a 7200RPM model). I assumed those things were the cause of the 8-day discrepancy in estimated ship dates. I was just surprised that it ended up shipping 3 days before the first promised ship date.

    Needless to say I'm quite happy with the early ship date. It'll be fun having it to set up over the holidays.

    So the UPS shipping tracker reads:

    U.S. 12/21/2009 7:27 A.M. CARRIER AND CUSTOMS RELEASED

    Guess that means it's in my home country and on its way. Anyone know where it may have landed? Isn't the UPS hub in Louisville, Kentucky?

    Glad your getting yours early. I ordered a T500 with upgraded hard drive and monitor on 12/14 and mine still says 12/30 as estimated ship date. Maybe I should have made that call.
