I have a ThinkPad X24, which has worked reliably for about 2 years.

I haven't used it for a few weeks, today I plugged in the power to charge it up and play with it, saw the orange light come on, went away for a few minutes and came back to find it completely inert.

No power light, nothing happens at all when I press the "on" button. Not a beep or flicker.

I checked the power socket, it was powered up, 16 V.
In any case there should have been enough juice in the battery to give me some response.

Only thing I can think of is that it can be quite humid here (though currently not so bad) and something shorted out inside.

Any suggestions, short of taking it for professional repair, which I'm afraid would cost more than it's worth.

I would recommend to try the following...

    1) Place in a warm, dry place to make sure any humidity/condensation dries out for 24 to 48 hours.
    2) Use a can of compressed air to clear all ports and fans.
    3) Plug in and let sit overnight to charge even if light does not turn on
    4) Try starting again

If it still does not respond even with a BIOS post, then your motherboard probably went from a short and it will need repaired or replaced which, as you have pointed out, would probably cost more that it is worth.
