Not sure if this is just the least amount of weight they can list - but 1 pound for that component seems heavy, considering the machine is roughly 6 pounds itself. I'm guessing that is an internal card you will need to get installed.

Okay, I really need to switch out so... if I have a Mini PCI-Express Intel card I have to get a Mini PCI-express Thinkpad card right and not a Mini PCI Thinkpad card?

The bluetooth card is completely independent of the wifi card. It looks pretty much just like an intel/ibm wireless card but says bluetooth on it. So make sure that when you're installing the ibm wireless card in your thinkpad, read the lable on your old card so you don't accidently take out the bluetooth card instead. My old intel wireless card was located towards the top near the power button, and my bluetooth card is located by the lower left palm rest area. Yours may vary. -
I'd just like a confirmation on my previous query.

I have been researching the T60 for a very long time before finally deciding to pull the trigger and buy one today.
FYI I called up Lenovo and configured with the salesman. Unfortunately the Atheros card is not available for the short term. I was told 3 weeks probably more before more stock. Unfortunately I cannot wait and had to place the order with the Intel card. Looks like I will be wasting $40+ at a later date to switch out.

I have the Thinkpad a/b/g/n. My only complaint is that there is no support yet for it in Linux
. Intel cards apparently are supported. I was wondering, can I buy a (hopefully cheap) USB wireless card with an intel chipset to solve my Linux problem until the drivers for Atheros are available?

I'd like to chime in with my experience with the Intel wireless. I'm a new ower of a T60 but I also own a Dell E1505 which also has the Pro Intel wireless mini-PCI card. Initially the card was very problematic. It would take a long time to connect. However, I discovered that, along with Dell, Intel also offered a wireless utility & driver for the card. At first Intel's version didn't help matters but finally they posted a version that did dramatically improve the card's performance and reliability. Eventually Dell's site offered the same updated utility, a good thing for all those Dell owners out there! Moral to the story: if Lenovo is not offering Intel's latest go to Intel's web site to get new utility. Good luck!
ThinkPad wireless vs. intel to rest
