    Hello Everyone.
Most of us all know that the ThinkPads are one of the toughest and well built Notebooks that are out in the market today. Well, i did a little researching about the build and the quality of it. I mean, the ThinkPads can sustain high crushing pressure, its waterproof, and fireproof? And they are still able to turn on. Well, i got these theories from the Lenovo website's video. Now, referring to the title, if the ThinkPad is so well built all around, what is the use of having a warranty? or is the warranty mainly for internal functions? anyone wanna discuss their opinions, or even stories of what happen to their ThinkPads?

Also here is the link to the videos, i have viewed. http://www.lenovovision.com/lv2/mediaplayer.php?fid=which_thinkpad_series >More Topics (bottom right) > Legends of the Thinkpads (mid Left)

The warranty covers problems with components, not accidental damage. I've have my current Thinkpad (a T42, soon to be replaced by a T400) in for repairs a couple of times and I am glad that it has the 3 year warranty (in the UK that seems standard since we cannot order custom builds). I've had the fan replaced and the DVD drive replaced (only had to send then the drive). I also replaced the keyboard myself because I was too busy to send the system back and the replacement was pretty cheap, but they would have covered that repair as well.

My take is that Thinkpads are build to last much longer than most laptops, but that is why it makes sense to have the extended warranty since system components can still die on you (like fans etc) regardless of build quality, and so the warranty ensures that I can rely on the computer for it's full 3 year lifecycle.

Holy crap, yes, the warranty is amazing.

So, I may be in a different situation than everyone else because I got the 4-yr accidental damage protection warranty, but I had two catastrophic spills/physical damage situations. Both times, I had an overnight box all set up to go at my door (next day). Everything was paid for, and everything was essentially replaced. No problem, no questions asked.

I'm a clumsy guy, so I need that damage protection. I've had warranties from many other computer companies over the years, and nothing compares to what Lenovo offers.
