    One fine day, that is since day before yesterday, when I press Fn+F5, it gives me the error "cannot change power state of wireless radio"!! i really don't know why, i did not do any change to my system, just went to PC-Doctor System diagnostics from IBM Predesktop and ran a few tests on my GPU and Display.

    1. Since then I have done at least 2 dozen un-installation, re-installation of Access Connections, Intel 2200Bg drivers in various orders.

    2. I have read most previous threads that talk about un-installation & installation priorities like Access connections first, then re-boot, then drivers..... etc. but no luck.

    3. Updating to 4.01 Access connections does not cause the error message, but Accessconnection always displays the wireless radio as OFF, even when its actually ON and so will no work.

    4. Windows zero configuration works fine. And yes, I tried disabling zero configuration, enabling it and in both cases re-installing access connection & intel drivers. No Luck.

    5. The wireless is working and passes all tests when using built in diagnostic software.

    6. Have been corresponding with technical support, and 4th time after giving up with un-installation 7 re-installations, they said they will send me a VB script, but I cannot access the webpage link they send me to download the script. I will be calling them on monday for further support. Anyway, the webaddress is http://32.85.144.10/helpcenter/infotips/techinfo/MIGR-60950.html. See if any of you folks can download the vbs file. If you can, please send me the file to [email protected].

    I feel if I fix the error message "can't change power state" that I get with 3.81 Access Connection driver, then even the 4.01 may work fine.

    So, did anyone else get similar error message you have fixed, or similar situation with 4.01 Access Connections and you got it working, please help out.

    I've also found the problem
    I solved it in this way:reinstall your OS,install the net extreme ethernet adapter driver,install software installer,then use software installer download and update all the drivers.
    I hope you can solve it in this way.

    i have been getting exactly the same problem. contacted ibm engineer and have done uninstall / reinstall for more than 10 times but does not help. the problem still exists even i installed the latest access connection version 4.11a and latest 2200bg driver from ibm site 9.0.2.31. I wonder ibm is looking into this problem seriously.

    If anyone out there have found the solution, i will really appreciate if you can forward the solution to [email protected]

    after I updated the Intel wireless drivers Access connections briefly did not work, but wireless still did. 3 or 4 days later I ran the the software updater, and part of the update was for access connections, and everything worked properly after that.

    Do some Voodoo, try to uninstall everything, then reinstall the version of AC and WiFi drivers that came preinstalled with your laptop.

    I tried upgrading the drivers several times, and every time it caused me to lose the Fn+F5 capability. I reached a stable configuration with the original drivers (8.something) and didn't touch them since (everything works fine, so why should I?)

    But in your case it just disappeared out of the blue. The Fn+F5 thingy is a very nasty bug, truth be told, no one knows what causes it exactly and how to solve it, so we just experiment until we find a configuration that works.

    Edit: This thread shows an occurence of the same problem, and a solution that worked. Perhaps it's worth a try.

    I have tried all the solutions suggested in the forum but none of the following work for me;

    1. use of "Your Uninstaller! 2006".
    2. VB scripts to clean up old driver files.
    3. include intel "bin" directory in PATH environment.

    I have also installed intel 2200bg version 9.0.4.8 with AC 4.11a but it doesn't help.

    Any new suggestion will be very much appreciated.

    finally, it now works. for those who is still getting the problem. you may want to try this; include "C:\Program Files\Intel\Wireless\Bin" in your PATH environment but it must be at the begining of the PATH and not at the end. Somehow, i find that the AC cannot accept if you place it at the end and your PATH environment is too long.

    thanks.

    I managed to get it to work with older wireless driver 9.0.1.21 and with newer drivers it does not work. I did not quite understand what you mean by PATH Enviornment? Is it placing it in "enviornment Variables" fount is "System" or is it something else? If you can provide me the link you got this info from or some explanation on how to do it, it would be great.

    Thank you,

    For information, here is my configuration;

    - 2200bg driver version 9.0.4.8 (latest version, just posted on IBM website)
    - Thinkvantage Access Connection 4.11a (tested with version 3.81, it works)
    - OS information: Microsoft Windows XP
    - OS version: 5.10.2600 Service Pack 2
    - Processor: x86 Family 6 Model 13 Stepping 6
    - Memory: 1,047,472 kb
    - BIOS version: 3.19 (1RETDNWW)
    - Machine type-Model: T42 2373KA4
    - Embedded controller version: 3.04

    In my case (may not applicable to all), the problem has something to do with the PATH environment setting, here is the instructions;

    1. right-click on "my computer" and then select "properties".
    2. select "Advance" tab and click on "Environment variables".
    3. select "Path" at "System environment" section and click edit.
    4. add "C:\Program Files\Intel\Wireless\Bin" to the begining of the value;
    My Path looks something like this, C:\Program Files\Intel\Wireless\Bin;c:\oracle\oraids\jdk\jre\bin\classic;c:\oracle\oraids\jdk\bin;c:\oracle\oraids\jdk\jre\bin\client;c:\oracle\oraids\jlib;c:\oracle\oraids\bin;c:\oracle\oraids\jre\1.1.8\bin;c:\oracle\ora10Gmidtier\jdk\jre\bin\classic;c:\oracle\ora10Gmidtier\jdk\jre\bin;c:\oracle\ora10Gmidtier\bin;c:\oracle\ora10Gmidtier\jlib;c:\oracle\ora10Gmidtier\jre\1.1.8\bin;c:\oracle\ora10Ginfra\bin;c:\oracle\ora10Ginfra\jlib;c:\oracle\ora10Ginfra\jre\1.1.8\bin;c:\oracle\ora10Ginfra\jre\1.4.2\bin\client;c:\oracle\ora10Ginfra\jre\1.4.2\bin;C:\Program Files\Oracle\jre\1.3.1\bin;C:\oracle\ora817\bin;C:\Program Files\Oracle\jre\1.1.7\bin;C:\PROGRAM FILES\THINKPAD\UTILITIES;%SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem;C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\ATI Control Panel;c:\common docs\utilities;"C:\Program Files\PROGRESS_9.1D\bin";"C:\Program Files\Support Tools";C:\Program Files\ThinkPad\ConnectUtilities

    Do the same to "User environment" as well.

    Hope this helps.

    I hate this software, but I"m oN Windows 2000....

    What to use other then this? Strangely the wireless works @ home but at work doesn't... UNLESS i go through hours of painful changing.
