    Dear fellow ThinkVantage Gentlepersons:

    I have the following Problem:
The ThinkVantage System Update program - Keeps error-ing out. Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

System: I have a T60p running Windows XP Prof (2613-CTO) which is about 9 months old.

    Situation:
    1. I ran the ThinkVantage System Update program for the 1st time yesterday. It began the update process... reached 7%... at which point "System Update Updating Itself".
    2. An error message appeared twice: "ThinkVantage system Tvsucommandlauncher has encountered a problem and program needs to close." Program closed out.
    3. When I attempted to run System Update again I got the splash screen and the error message ""ThinkVantage Systemupdate has encountered a problem and program needs to close."
    4. Spoke with "Hardware" support (that deals with "basic" installation issues) (1-800-426-7378 +2 +2 +1) who suggested I update the System Updater program. He directed me to the site with the latest ThinkVantage updates by searching for "MIGR-61432" on the IBM website. This led me to "ThinkVantage Technologies Download" webpage at http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-61432
    4. Downloaded the latest version of System update: 3.13 (1/10/2008 build - file systemupdate313-2008-1-7).
    5. Installed 3.13 - During the installation process it required me to uninstall my old files - During the uninstall received the message ""ThinkVantage system Tvsucommandlauncher has encountered a problem and program needs to close." However, the program did not close out and continued to run. Then during the installation part, received the same error message again. The installation then "completed" and asked me to restart.
    6. After Reboot, Checked System Update - and the same problems as listed in #3 occurred again.
    7. Spoke with Support again. Their options: Re-install from an image or go to Paid Software support (seemed strange for a pre-installed Thinkvantage program... but that's another issue).
    8. Tried Re-naming the folder containing the System Updater files before reinstalling (C:\Program Files\Lenovo\System Update). Ran the installation program. Asked me to uninstall current version. No error during uninstall. Installation started. Error message tvsucommandlauncher appeared again.
    9. After Reboot, Checked System Update - and the same problems as listed in #3 occurred again.

Note: Doing a search for "tvsucommandlauncher" in the system I found hits at:
    A. TVSUCOMMANDLAUNCHER.EXE-219544FD.pf in C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch
    B. Tvsucommandlauncher and C. Tvsucommandlauncher.exe.config - Both located in C:\Program Files\Lenovo\System Update

I'm trying to figure out what else I should try. I'm considering renaming the file in the "Prefetch" folder and trying to reinstall. Anyone know where I would find the settings in the registry? Once again, Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

    Thank you very much!

    Sincerely, ThinkPadMan

My T60p ate my harddrive, and all 5 of my backups failed to restore.
I just finished restoring the new HDD to the factory image and I'm getting the exact same thing you describe.
Have you figured it out yet?
