I have a new R61e (10 days old) with XP Professional. I used the ThinkVantage button several times a few days ago successfully for System Update. When I try it now, I get an hourglass for about 2/10 of a second and nothing happens. I can, however, access System Update through Start>Programs>ThinkVantage>System Update without any problem. How do I remedy this? Thanks in advance.

Oops sorry.. i mean Lenovo.....ma bad

Just a question...beside the ThinkVantage button are you satisfied with your purchase in terms of Build Quality, keyboard, screen etc
-
Extremely pleased. I can call Lenovo and may do so tomorrow. I did disable some startup items and wonder if that has anything to do with it.

AAHA!.....just came to my mind... y dont you go to lenovos website and down load the thinkvantage software and reinstall it.....might help...

Thanks for the guidance. I did call Lenovo and they had me download a file that solved the problem. If this was a Dell, I'd STILL be on the phone with them!
-
what file would that be? im having a similar problem after disabling startup programs. thanks
-
never mind i just installed updates and it did the trick!

This is totally insane. Lenove forums, website, etc. are all designed to prevent you from dealing with problems (of which there seem to be far, far, far too many). When I installed updates, the ThinkVantage button resulted in a window that said "LPL1 an unsupported function......". When I did a System Restore the problem went away. Lenovo is the only company whose 'update' software actually manages to screw up what they gave you to start with.
-
Well when I installed updates, it actually caused the problem. Only a System Restore solved it. Lenovo's software seems to self-destruct after the update process. I am going to system restore and then apply the updates one by one to see what is causing the problem. I won't tell Lenovo unless they pay me for my time. Thanks a LOT, Lenovo.

So, why hasn't someone from Lenovo posted the solution on this forum? After how many days?
I don't think Lenovo are ever getting any more of my money. I write software for a living by the way, and what I produce actually works, unlike that stuff produced by Lenov Oh mi G.
The whole thing is truly pathetic and such a waste of time; I might be better off throwing the thing in the trash and spending my time more usefully. -

So, how are the Users (intelligent and well-meaning as they are) supposed to solve problems caused by Lenovo's faulty software? And why should it fall on the Users to do so? It seems to me, having been to the Lenovo support site, that they are trying to steer people into PAYING them to solve problems that Lenovo themselves have caused and that should not have occurred in the first place.
Listen up LENOVO; if you sell people a product that doesn't work properly and don't provide a reasonable (i.e. one that does not involve waiting 30 mins on the phone) remedy, then you may one day be looking at a class-action lawsuit.
What is wrong with Lenovo? Before I bought this T61 I read a lot of positive review; obviously the reviewers hadn't tried to do a system update.
Why is there no email address that you can use to describe the problem and have someone from Lenovo reply within 24 hours with the solution?
"LPL1 an unsupported function was attempted". No information, no help, no nothing. Close the window and restore your system. What kind of software quality is that? -
so you guys still use that thinkvantage crap ? ..
when I press my button, it does Log-off.. or whatever I preconfigure it to do. Priceless
ThinkVantage button not working...R61e
