I've been waiting for weeks now for Lenovo to get a 7200 rpm 60GB HDD. Still no option. And right now Dell is offering an instant savings of $400 off a Latitude computer. I configured the thing the same as the T60 for all intensive purposes but with a 7200rpm HDD. The price: almost $400 less than the T60. Plus Dell will give free shipping. and my Discover Card is giving 5% cash back on Dell computer purchases.

I'm thinking of forgetting about buying the T60 and going with the Dell.

What you all think. I'd like some feedback on your thoughts.

You can upgrade the hard drive. The T60 will be better built with better battery life as well, but the D620 isn't a bad choice at all.

The d620 is fine and all, but something as easily changed as the harddrive seems like a pretty silly reason to choose one computer over the other. In fact, getting the 60gb 7200rpm harddrive from newegg or whoever would probably be cheaper than upgrading to it through lenovo, and then you can just resell whatever harddrive came in it.

If you want to get the d620 because of the price difference, though, that sounds reasonable. I think the quality of the thinkpad is worth the extra cost, but I guess it depends on how much you want to (or how much you can) splurge on the laptop.

Have you owned Dell before ???.
Because You shouldn't compare dell laptop to a thinkpad. May be to Gateway and HP.

:D... That made me laugh :D.

Though that is more true that you stated in most cases, I have a feeling looking at the snaps that Dell got their dirty act togather for their new line of Latitudes. The look cool and reviews seam good. But I can't be sure as I sometimes read raving reviews of their inspirons and I just figure people don't know what they are talking about.

Regarding the T60, I would say apart form a better build quality, keyboard, trackpoint etc.. the ThinkVantage tools alone are worth the price difference. After having used the ThinkPda for half a year now, I really can't figure how I put up with other lappies before ;)

EDIT: When I got my system, even i couldn't find a model with the 7200RPM I like on their site, so I called them and sure enough, they had it... so do try that out in case you have not already done that,

Hey, what did you decide? I'm in a similar boat, so I'd like to know what you wound up with (and if you have it, how you like it).

Why not get the 100GB 7200 drive that they offer? The cost diff. would be negligable over the long term.???

The Inspirons are fair to middling, but the new Latitudes are pretty decent. Are they ThinkPads? No, but they also cost less which is good enough for some people. Not everyone can afford to be a snob.

I wouldn't pick one or the other notebook because of the hard drive, that's something you can always change. You should make your decision based on what you want in a notebook. I tried a D620 recently and really liked it. I felt that it was very well built, just the keyboard felt somewhat inferior to ThinkPad keyboards, but only slightly. I also didn't notice anything wrong with the screen (a common complaint in the Dell forum on this site). If you want widescreen, the D620 is your only option. If you want to save money, you might get a better deal at Dell, but did you look at Lenovo's back to school sale on thinkpad.com? The T60 is one of the models currently on sale.

Thanks! I'm not the original poster, but I actually prefer a standard screen versus a wide screen so I'm wondering if should take advantage of the sale. Decisions, decisions....

I've never had a Dell before but from what I see online, theyre priced way way lower than Thinkpads. Among major computer brands, I think Dells have the cheapest computers. Latitude series actually looks nice but its not an option for me as Dell isn't sold here officially so no warranty support.

I have to Cerebral_mamba about Thinkvantage utilities though. I've had HP's, Toshiba's, Acer's before and definitely Thinkvantage Utilities is the best software package you can have. :)
