I like the look of the y series from lenovo and I've also heard good things about their build quality. I'm planning to take this to college, but I also want to play some games like Cod4/5 and starcraft 2 etc. I'm not expecting very high settings, but I want something decent. I'm a bit confused about the gfx cards that come on both because i've heard either the G130M or g105M for the y550 and either the g110m or the g105M for the y450. Can someone please explain which graphics card you get and whether either laptop would be a good balance of graphical power and portability? Thanks.

Y450 comes with 110M, and
Y550 comes with 130M.
You can compare performance over here:

Someone else might help you with which games they can play.
EDIT: Lenovo's website is wrong about gfx cards in these models, the downloadable pdf file is correct. -
Have a look at this chart at NBC, too:

Any thoughts about the portability of the y550? I know the y450's okay but i dont' like the g110 much.

Since the 450 isnt' very graphically strong, i'm only thinking about the y550 now.

DO NOT GET AN IDEAPAD>>>
THEY ARE A NO WHERE AS GOOD AS A THINKPAD>>>
i own both a thinkpad and an ideapad (old thinkpad.. new ideapad)
ideapads only look good.. no where as good of quality (no roll cage... not water spill proof.. no battery upgrades)
go pick up a thinkpad... T400 or T500... or a step lower for the R400 or R500....
DO NOT GET THE SL400 OR SL500 as it is just an ideapad with a pointstick...
it is not classified as a real thinkpad...
also stay away from the 3000 G series (like G530)Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015
