Hi. I am new to the forums, but I have been checking the site out, and I find all of the information very interesting. I am not overly knowledgeable about computers, and I was wondering if you would be kind enough to help me decide on which laptop to purchase.
I bought an IBM T42 three years ago, the summer before my freshman year in college. I loved it, although it was low on memory(40gb, I had to buy an external hard drive to store all of my stuff). Last semester my lap top received water damage to the mother board and doesn't turn on. I decided to hold off until now to purchase a new lap top. I was considering purchasing the T60, since I loved my T42.
Does the T60 come with Vista or XP? Is there a big difference between XP and Vista?
I think the T60 should be enough for me. I use my laptop to do work, download music and movies, and surf the internet. I do not play computer games. Does the T60 have a good wireless connection pre-installed, or do I have to purchase a wireless card? Where is the best place to purchase a T60? Do I have to do any set up to it?

One final question... my previous laptop's motherboard was water damaged, but my hard drive remains intact. I want to transfer the information from my old laptop's harddrive to my new computer. Is that possible? How can I do that? Thanks a lot for your help.

You can get the T60 with either XP or Vista. Not a huge difference between XP and Vista in my opinion. Vista is prettier, but has some more annoying features as well. The T60 has several wireless card option.s You can buy an external case for your for old drive and hook it up via usb then dump the files off that way. You can get one for about $10 on the internet.

Does the it come with a preinstalled Wi-Fi connection, or do I have to buy a Wifi card?
Will I be able to use this for extended amounts of time on my bed, or will it over heat?
What type of specs should I get on the computer? Should I get Vista or XP?

It will have some WiFi card. It shouldn't get too hot. What are you going to do with it?

School Work, Downloading Music and Movies, Using the Internet. Is there an option for an internal Wi-Fi Card? My last laptop didn't have an external card sticking out, and I could access the internet. I liked that.
(sorry for all of the questions. Like I said, I don't know that much about computers)
